What's the real story on depth and children.

One place says 40 feet till age 15.
Another says 40 feet till age 12 and 60 feet till age 15.

Anyone know the answer?

From what I have heard, the shallower the better. I know PADI is thinking about revising their limits on younger people and depth. There has been some research that has suggested that the depth could possibly inhibit growth in children....who knows

The guru's in Diving Medicine would probably have a much better answer for you!

There is no answer because there's no research. I limited my son to 40 feet and two trips per year until he stopped growing. I Taught him to dive at age 13. My daughter is 16 and finally told me she's ready to learn.

my deepest dive was 26m (85 foot). I was 15 at that time and PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.

Had no problems

I don't know why, but kids diving makes me nervous. Are there any other restrictions put on kids other than depth?

That being said, I know if I had had the money at 12, I would have done it :)

Huh...maybe I was dreaming when I heard that then....

My question was more to the 60 foot issue - I plan to limit her as a child to the 40 and then the 60 foot mark at age 15.

"I plan to limit her as a child to the 40 and then the 60 foot mark at age 15."

Why?

the suggested limit a child is 40 feet.

However, different groups define child differently.

The PADI folks consider a child ages 10 and 11. (As far as I can tell).

The SSI folks consider a child up to age 14. (Again as far as I can tell).

They all agree to the 40 feet but differ on the age that it applies to.

Therein lies my original question that I probably didn't ask very well.
