Simonds Snapper Shootout

As many of you have seen on the Passings thread, Spree crewmember Jeff Simonds died in a car crash on 7 mile bridge in the Florida Keys on Feb 18th. Jeff was a great friend, a superb diver, and a State of Florida Fish Biologist. Unfortunately Jeff was not an employee of the State but was a contractor. Jeff's wife Jess is a school teacher with the Monroe County School District, and will receive no death benefits from the State of Florida. His friends are holding a spearfishing tournament in his honor and for Jess' benefit on March 6, 2010. The name of the benefit is the Simonds Snapper Shootout, and wil be held at the Keys Scuba Shack at the Hurricane Hole Marina. A partial prize list follows:

All proceeds to benefit the wife of Jeff Simonds (FWC Biologist) who was killed in a traffic accident on February 16th. Winner need not be present.

Great cause. Jeff touched hundreds if not many thousands of lives in the spearing community. I hope turnout or at least raffle participation is truly massive for this event.

Can't believe she will not recieve any benifits when he was a passenger in a FWC vehicle. Is there a location to send donations or do we have to purchase the raffle tickets?
