Hola,

I come now for advice in the diving computer section. I was looking at a Cochran Commander, but someone told me that it was not so hot in terms of reliabilty and such. So I went looking agian and found TUSA SAPIENCE IQ-800 AIR/NITROX “VIBRATING” COMPUTER - that.

What I read said that it did not have downloadable software yet, but it would be coming out before long. Is that computer much better than the Commander? If not what would be a good computer that is very reliable, and around the same size? I prefer longer, thin computers over the more or less watch style computers.

The later model Cochran Commander is pretty reliable in my experience - I’ve used both the older Commander Nitrox and the Commander (now there is an even newer Trimix version). It’s the Cochran Gemini that I had a LOT of trouble with and ended up sending back.

The IQ-800 is so new that I doubt anyone has had the chance compare it to the Commander. I would say the two brands are also aimed at different types of diver and you might be able to narrow down your choice based on what kind of diving you plan to do. You could PM Larry (Scuba Toys - see below) on this board and he might be able to advise you about the IQ-800.
