Visiting Diver Question re: Wetsuit in July

I'm an East Coast diver doing a liveaboard to San Clemente in July and am debating what kind of exposure suit I oughta bring. I have a dry suit but prefer to dive wet -- I have a 7mm Scubapro Everflex. I'm leaning toward buying a hooded vest, but can't decide if a 5mm/3mm vest or a 7mm vest makes most sense. I tend to run warm, but will obviously be doing lot of diving and want to enjoy it, not just tolerate it. Any opinions from Southern California?

The temps at San Clemente Island run in the mid 60s in July. When I dive wet(rarely) I use a hooded vest, only 'cause I tend to get cold easily.

I think it's a good idea - I wear one when I dive wet, but I run cold. You'll be doing multiple dives, so that's a consideration. As to thickness, I think mine is less than 7 mil, and it's fine for me.

I have a 7 mm two piece suit and use a 3 mm akona hood and 5mm gloves. Have dove catalina, wreck alley etc. in july and have been fine.

I tend to dive dry all year out here, but, if I do go wet, even in the summer months I'll wear a 7mm + 5/3 hooded vest.
