I Will be in Arcadia the first week of June. On Thursday the 2nd I have the day to myself. I would like to get a few dives in. any suggestions? I will not have a buddie with and do not know any divers in the area so if there are any guides/buddies/DMs looking to dive on a weekday I am PADI ow SDI AOW, SDI Rescue. Post back or email mnlakediver@bwig.net

Let me see, calendar for June 2nd. Nope, nothing on it except diving if you want. Laguna Beach, Malibu, Palos Verde what is your pleasure? Been diving the Mall of America? Bring mask, fins and snorkle as well as gloves and boots. The rest you can rent. Only 3 places rent the other stuff and they are, um, expensive.

http://www.sandeaters.org has a description of the diving. You want kelp or reef or sand? Deep, shallow what is your pleasure.

Sounds Great I will check out the site as for pleasure I want somtjing with more than 10 foot vis. I will prpbab;y have all but tanks/weight with me. so as long as I can get air and find the dive sith I should be happy.

sorry it took so long to post again but I am trying to plan the trip. most of the sites look good, I would prefer to stay away from strong currents as I have not done alot of ocean diving and our lakes get deep but you can still only drift sofar.
any suggestions of places you prefer any of them will be new to me. also need a shop to rent tanks and lead from. if any sites require special transportation let me know as I have not rented a car yet so could change to 4X4 if needed.
I have not dove the Mall Of America. They charge $150 for a pool dive. and you need a group of 6 each paying the 150 and for that money we can charter a boat and go wreck diving in the Greatlakes

Ok, If you have not done much ocean diving then we should consider some of the easier sites. All are just fine in a normal car.

Laguna Beach - rent the gear from
Laguna Sea Sports http://www.lagunaseasports.com
Sports Chalet in Irvine http://www.sportchalet.com/corp/ind...ionCode=5&state=CA&city=Irvine&locName=Irvine

Dive sites there:
Crescent Bay
Deadmans Reef - if you are in shape for the 300 yard swim out
Shaws Cove
Fishermans Cove
Divers Cove

Palos Verde - Rent gear from one of the following
Dive-N-Surf in Redondo Beach http://www.divensurf.com/company/index.htm
Pacific Wilderness http://www.pacificwilderness.com/
Sports Chalet in Torrance http://www.sportchalet.com/corp/ind...y=Torrance&locName=Torrance+-+Village+Del+Amo

Malaga Cove - shallow and easy but a very long walk down the paved road and then a dirt road.
Old Marine Land (Long Point) a bit more advanced entry off large rocks or small rocks but rocks.

Malibu
Rent gear from Malibu Divers http://www.malibudivers.com/
Leo Carrillo State Beach
Sequint Point
Malibu Road
Corral Beach

visibility at any of the sites just depends upon the day. Visibility on Friday ran from 10 feet to 40 feet depending upon locaiton.
Those will get you started. I may be able to join you for a dive if you want any local company. 562-421-3094

Laguna Beach looks like there is a lot to choose from close.
and yes I would love to have a local guide as I don't like diving alone.
Laguna Beach Sports opens at 10:00 that my be the best place to meet.

It looks like some GREAT shore diving options were shared.

However, you may want to do a boat dive if you don't have a buddy and aren't familiar with the area. There are several boats that depart from Long Beach and San Pedro to Catalina Island. (The Great Escape, The Bottom Scratcher, etc.)

Another option is to go north a bit to Ventura and take either The Spectre of The Peace to Anacapa Island. The nice thing about this outfit is that they offer weekday trips that are very reasonable and usually not very crowded. Check out Cal Boat Diving for more info.

I'm not exactly sure where Arcadia is to Ventura, but you can board these boats the night before your dive. The bunks aren't great, but I've found the sleeping arrangement to be tolerable.

The boats look good but I only have one day to dive. My wife and I may make a trip alone in the fall and then I could plan a 2 day outing on the boats or 2 days on Catalina.

Ok, so to recap and ensure we are on the same page.

We will meet at 10:00 a.m. at Laguna Sea Sports. Naturally in keeping with the sprit of the board any others who wish to join us are invited. Final dive site will be determined by mutual agreement, dive experience, and current conditions. I promise only that you will get wet if the conditions permit. Bring your own visibility or take what nature offers at the site we dive on that particular day.

Now about me: I am not a DI, DM or guide, just a diver willing to dive on June 2 with a new dive buddy and share local dive sites that I am familiar with. I am a conservative diver looking for a dive buddy who is an arms length plus 1 or 2 feet dive buddy, not same ocean dive buddy. I am into looking and not hunting (except lobster in season) or harassing the fish. Looking to do nice easy slow speed dive where we look and enjoy the view with no particular hurry to get anywhere. Age 51 and in good physical shape thanks to diving.

Please send by e-mail: pasley@pasleynospamrealty.com just remove the no spam from the address your Los Angeles contact information (cell phone etc). My Phone: 652-421-3094.

Experience - Certified May 2001, AOW, 198 dives as of last night and I won’t get to dive again until Wednesday. 180+ of those dives were beach dives in California.
