Does propulsion come from the top or bottom of the fin?
What is the feet supposed to be doing during this kick?

Does anyone have videos of a demo of this kick without fins on?

Thanks!

PS: What are the advantages of this kick over the traditional modified frog and modified flutter?

Btw the first time I saw it being performed was in this video:

Skip to 1 min 32 secs to see the demo of the shuffle kick.

That version has the thrust coming from the bottom of the fin (if the 'top' is the instep side).

Useful over silty bottoms with delicate ceilings.

Thank you! Is it possible to describe how to do this in words?
Is this kick formally taught in a GUE cave class? Or is it an informal skill passed on from one diver to another?

We called that the modified flutter. It's taught in Fundies.

Hi Lynne,
I believe they are not the same kick. The modified flutter has bigger, slower actions, and the fins are pointed mostly upwards.
The shuffle has fast, small actions and the fins are pointed backwards.

The kick he's doing at the 0:55 mark is closer to a flutter kick while at 1:47 would be a closer to a modified flutter kick. Both kicks are taught in Fundies, and both need to be mastered by the Cave 2 level. Special attention should be made to the minimal movement of the upper leg or dropping of knees.
