I finally registered today on the board, after reading for a few days. I'm not certified (yet), but, while on Maui in August, I took the time for a PADI Intro to Scuba and had the instructor all to myself for two shore dives (both 25-30 feet). All I could think of after the second dive was "what a blast". After that, I decided that I had to get certified. My OW class is scheduled for this weekend, and assuming that everything goes well, I'll do my certification dives at Lake Rawlings, VA next month. Can't wait 'till I've got the C-card. Of course, my wife says I'll have to give up golf to support the scuba. I guess we all have to make some sacrifices to support our obsessions. :D

Welcome to ScubaBoard! Good luck with your OW course! I am sure you will do great!

WELCOME to the BOARD!
Good luck on the OW cert.
Is your wife diving also? The trick is getting her into diving also and once she gets hooked, they dont seem to mind about the money.Thats what I had to do.Plus you always have a dive buddy!

Hi cgilyeat, and welcome to ScubaBoard. Once you get certified you will have to learn how to beg, plead and bribe to get the gear and dive vacations you will require for your new obsession. Learn to say things like, "if we go, you can do all the shopping you want when I'm diving". Or "sure your girlfriend can come along to keep you company while I'm diving". This one works well for me is, " they have a really nice spa where you can get a massage of a lifetime",
Good luck,
David

Welcome to the board!

Welcome to the board......I used to play golf every weekend during the season, but since I went back to diving in 2003 I can count the rounds I've played one one hand.

Welcome to Scubaboard !!!

You made the right switch. Being chased by a great white is a lot more fun compared to wasting hours looking for a silly little white ball.

After you next dive , give your wife some pearls and tell her you found them during your dive.

Enjoy your certification !!!
