Just introducing myself to the boards. I am originally from the Amarillo, Texas area and now live and work in S. Korea.

I learned to scuba dive nearly 30 years ago at New Mexico Military Inst. but never did do any more diving after that. Last year a bunch of us went to Sabang Beach, near Puerta Galera, Philippines. PADI had no record of me so i had to do the OW again, but had fun doing it. I made a return trip there for some more dives and am thoroughly hooked (kind of like my parachuting addiction).

For Christmas I am going to Koh Samui, Thailand for 10 days of diving fun. I came across this board while looking for info on Koh Samui.

Welcome to SB! Must have been a big difference 30 years ago if ya didn't dive after that...or was it the parachuting? IIRC- diving in the last 6 months is the standard (PADI) rule or ya need a refresher. I can't see me drying out that long! and a VERY Merry Christmas gift as well- lucky you! Have fun and dive safely!

Scubajoe, I am from near a town called Shamrock.

I was a cop in Amarillo for years then went to Customs. Got activated in the army reserves afte 9-11 and sent to Korea. Hit my retirement while here. decided to stay! it is much easier and CHEAPER to travel around Asia from here. For example RT to the PI is about $400. We have several guys that go to the PI on long holiday weekends.

i've been to shamrock! there were lots of guys sitting on their pickups when we went into the laundromat, and nobody in sight at all when we came out and the sidewalks were rolled up...
