Local boat diving at a leisurely pace in comfort!

event_44114131.jpeg

Don't wait to grab this one!

This is a 4-tank local dive trip aboard the Horizon. Yes, I said FOUR dives... for a very reasonable price! (Some places charge $90 for only two tanks!) The Horizon is not your average local dive boat. She's built for multi-day trips out to sea and as such has a wonderful salon, big back deck, and dive accommodations. At 85 feet long she's more than suited for this kind of trip. In other words... SPACE!

DIVE SITES
TRAIN WHEELS: Actual train wheels in a small cavern at pre-historic San Diego's coastline. 60' to 100'+ deep. Excellent kelp beds on the plateau above the cavern.

DINO HEAD: Fun structure on the edge of the Point Loma Kelp Forest. If you squint your eyes and cock your head the pinnacle looks like a T-Rex torso. 60' to 90' deep.

NRAD WEST: Series of solidy-good pinnacles arranged in a gently curving line. Nudibranchs galore here. 60' to 90' deep.
NEW HOPE ROCK: Awesome structure and wall. Metridium castaways present from the Yukon or missile tower. 60-95' deep

BOARDING: Boat boards at ~7 am. (It'll be returning from the San Clemente trip, so the boarding time could be off a bit. Be there at 7 am to make sure.)
DEPARTURE: Boat departs approx 45 minutes after boarding.
RETURN: We'll arrive back at the dock in the late afternoon/early evening of that same day.

PRICE: $93.77 each

FOOD: The Horizon has very tasty fare. If you have special food requests (vegan, etc) please let them know well ahead of time and they'll be happy to accommodate you.
NITROX: Nitrox provided for an extra (reasonable) charge. They spit out 32% using a membrane system.
GEAR: Horizon has free Al 80 tanks and some weights for you to use. (Let them know you need a tank as soon as you board.) You must bring everything else (though the Horizon has some rental stuff if you set it up with them beforehand).
EXPERIENCE: You should be solid in your skills whatever level you are. If you choose to you'll be able to stay shallower (around 60') on at least three of the dives.

Pointers:

  • BRING YOUR CERT CARD.
  • Hydrate really well. Frequent peeing is better than DCI or sea-sickness.
  • Take Bonine (or similar) if you think you're at all inclined toward seasickness.
  • Eat a decent, non-greasy breakfast.
  • Bring something to keep you warm between dives (overcoat, boat jacket, etc).
  • Bring a torch for peering into nooks and crannies.
  • End your dive close to the boat (unless you enjoy long surface swims).
  • ALWAYS bring your dive essentials: A safety sausage, knife, and whistle ... MANDATORY!
  • Don't forget to tip the boat crew if they do a good job for you. This one's just as important as any other point in this list. The DM is there for your safety. Take care of him/her!

Boat Etiquette Reminder:

  • Don't be late.
  • Space is limited on a boat. Stow all your gear where directed to by crew.
  • Keep gear out of the walk-way, damnit.
  • Put your fins on at drop-in point (not forward and then flip flop over people's feet and gear).
  • Don't rinse your mask or other gear in the CAMERA BUCKET!
  • Don't clog up the marine head with Baby Ruth bars, tampons, or similar.
  • If you have to throw up, do it downwind (leeward), NOT IN THE HEAD.
  • If you have to cancel, do it well before the cutoff time so Bill has a chance to sell your seat.
