Hey! Quite recently i started editing my videos from dives, using after effects and gopro studio. I do however have a huge problem with white balancing..
It does not matter if i do it in gopro studio or after effects the results are still the same - awful.
I figured it was because i had been using a red filter, so I started a thread here asking for you raw footage so that i could try it out on that. I got a video filmed on a gopro with Raw turned on.
Heres a screen of what that looks like, unedited; http://i.imgur.com/C2uGXdE.jpg
And here is what it looked like after it being edited by the guy that sent it, using gopro studio only, and simply by whitebalancing; http://i.imgur.com/8oLVCNK.jpg

I have tried and tried but nothing seems to work, Ive watched every guide out there about white balancing but nothing seems to work.
Here is what i got using after effects: Imgur

I have a PC and the person that sent me the files is using a mac, now i know that macs are better for video editing but is it really this bad? Should a PC not manage to white balance correctly?
Cheers, Pajjpen!

I grabbed the jpg you listed and tweaked it in Photoshop, similar to how I would tweak video footage in Final Cut Pro. You would need to have a Mac to use Final Cut, and I do use an older version of the software. Not sure the current version has the same color balancing capabilities as the older version.

See, the result u got is actually good. I can't even get near that using a pc. Is there nobody out there that has any pc experience?

IMO, get a 'real' camera for stills.......:)......

It has nothing to do with the camera tho. And its all video, i just took screenshots ofthe video instead of uploading the entire video here..

He and I worked together last week to try to figure out what was going on... I'm using a Mac and got similar results to what Timmyjoe posted above for video. Using Photoshop, iMovie or GoPro studio I got similar results. Pajjpen is using a PC and trying to process the same files using the PC version of GoPro studio, neither he or I could approach the results with the same software on my Mac....

It just doesn't make sense. I understand his frustration...

My bad--thought you were trying to come up with some good stills-------carry on......

I use a PC for video editing. By the looks of your unedited screen shot (http://i.imgur.com/C2uGXdE.jpg) it does not appear like you used a red filter, it is way too blue. When filming at depth without a red filter on a GoPro, the footage is usually too void of certain colors to be corrected by a simple white-balance tool. I've seen it done with After Effects but from a skilled user (GoPro HD Hero 2 Underwater Color Correction Using Adobe Aftereffects - YouTube).

I've shot plenty of GoPro Hero 3 BE videos using a red filter and Camera RAW WB and have been able to color correct with very good results. I believe I used GoPro Studio's WB tool for color correction. I now use Sony Vegas Pro and a different camera. Be sure to select a neutral color (gray or white) with the WB picker tool. If you are not using a red filter, get one. Also choose RAW WB if you want to grade yourself.

Here is what I got using Sony Vegas. I used the 3 wheel color corrector, boosted saturation and contrast.

I am actaully quite decent at after effects but it just doenst do it for me with the raw files. Some files i have i can grade for a while and get good results, but i want the white balance to atleast give me something to work with which it isnt. I will try it with sony vegas tomorrow and get back to you. Using a filter and filming raw does not make any sense to me tbh.
