With its bright screen and tiny battery the Teric requires you to monitor charge level diligently. The Perdix just keeps on tickin'.
That was an excellent way to describe the issues

I like that you can have 3 mini displays with the Perdix — I can see all parameters I need during a dive without ever changing screen. The Teric has a great contrast and it’s suitable for people like my wife who don’t care about all the data on gas consumption and deco and prefer a smaller form factor.

The Teric also offers mini displays. I use my Terics for OC tech dives and as a standalone backup on CCR tech dives. I do not agree with your implication that the Teric is less suitable than the Perdix for technical divers.

I had both a Perdix AI and a Teric at the same time. I dived them both together for a while. I like the Teric so much better I sold the Perdix and bought a second Teric. There is nothing about the Teric that I think is "less than" the Perdix for rec or tech diving.

If, by diligently, you mean that you have to check and be prepared to charge it every 4 or 5 days of diving, then sure, yeah. Both of my Terics are pretty badly in need of sending off for battery replacement. Yet they will still handle at least 4 days in a row of diving without charging, if I start with a full charge the night before the first dive.

Yes, that's what I mean.

Fully agree that Teric is perfectly suited for technical diving. I just prefer have more parameters on the same screen.

LOL!! Wow! That is a LOT!

I don't know if the Teric can display all that at once or not. I'll accept your implication that it cannot and say... it is okay with me... :D

Just bought a Teric at 20% off. Normal price here is £1035 so reasonable saving. Hopefully be here sometime during the week and I’ll try it out next weekend. Hopefully no battery or AI antenna issues 🤞🏻
Will get some reader stick on inserts for my mask to see if they help before I get prescription lenses

Used this for a pool dive earlier in the week. Few initial thoughts on it (by no means a review).
I can read it just as well as my Perdix which is good news. I’ve ordered some stick on inserts for my mask to try them before I spend the money on getting proper prescription lenses bonded in. But, I can get by without, just.
I like the form factor and it doesn’t catch when getting in and out of my wing like the Perdix does. I’d like it if I could have the text in the middle row a bit bigger. I have it in Big mode, OC Rec and middle row right set as T1 - can’t seem to get it to stay on GTR SAC AND T1 but haven’t had enough time to read the manual and play with settings. It’s only a couple of button presses away to change it. Buttons are nice with the feedback that my Perdix doesn’t have. Not sure I need the depth and time to be so big in comparison. The orange text is closer to dark yellow than orange.
Haptic alerts are nice to have too - need to see if f they work through Drysuit and undersuit.
I can continue using Shearwater Cloud for my logs just by changing the next dive number on the Teric which is handy. Wireless charging is nice too.
The inclusion of the extender strap is welcome as I dive dry suit but I’d actually prefer just a longer strap instead. I get that it would be too long if wearing as a watch but to be honest, if I just wanted to see the time and date on my watch, I’ll wear a mechanical one. It’s not great as a watch as it doesn’t give you any more functionality than a digital Casio from the 1980’s. Other than on dive days I can’t see me wearing it as a watch. This is where the Garmin has far more features. I’ve my AWU for smartwatch usage and if I just want a watch I’ve my Seamaster or Speedmaster.
I think I’ll be keeping it. I’ll hang onto my Perdix AI for a bit until I’m 100% sure.
From a value for money perspective, I wouldn’t pay retail for one (£1085 in the UK). It feels a bit plasticky compared to my AWU. The stainless steel bezel looks and feels robust (although looks like it’ll scratch easily). The case feels a bit cheap as it’s plastic. Screen is excellent though but so is the AWU’s screen. The Garmin is the equivalent to a Teric + AWU in terms of cost. If I wasn’t in the Apple ecosystem, didn’t have 2 transmitters and already have an AWU, I’d have gone Garmin.
Build date was October 23 so hopefully no battery issues 🤞🏻.
I’ve also pre-ordered a Tern TX for my daughter for delivery in January hopefully.
If I can get in the ocean over the Christmas holidays I’ll be able to see what it’s like in less visibility.
I like that I can have both the Perdix and Teric connected to the one transmitter so may dive with both for a while. If Apple introduces AI then I’d have another dilemma!

Bit of a thinking out loud post and looking for opinions/advice.
At present I have a Perdix AI with Aqualung transmitter. I’m a recreational diver and as I’m in my 50s and a new diver, I can’t see myself ever going down the tec route (I know the Perdix is overkill for Rec but I wanted AI).
I need readers to read my phone but can get by without vision correcting lenses to read depth, time, pressure, NDL and GTR on my Perdix AI.
I think I’d like to try a watch style computer and the obvious choice is the Teric as it would keep my logs in the Shearwater Cloud and it’s a familiar interface. I love the idea of it being a watch too but it’s lacking in smart watch functionality (I have an AWU and use the notification alerts and fitness stuff) that I would like - that adds the Garmin MI3i into the mix.
So, can the Teric be configured to show T1 pressure, depth, GTR and NDL on one screen? I’m guessing it’ll be harder to read than the Perdix? I’m happy to charge the Teric regularly as I’m used to this with Apple Watches so battery life isn’t a real issue.
The Garmin would give me watch style, AI and smart watch functionality but at a price - more expensive than the Shearwater option plus the additional cost of a proprietary transmitter (I can use my Aqualung with the Teric) and a new interface to learn.
I’m leaning towards a Teric and sticking reader inserts in my mask but the Garmin is making me think twice.
I will be buying my daughter a Tern TX to replace her Perdix AI when released but it might just be too small for my old eyes.

Any suggestions, based on experience welcome. Also, any suggestions for reader mask inserts would help too.
I am a bit late to the game... I am also up in years and do Tec diving so I can give first hand information on the Garmin and my nemesis the shearwater perdix2 AI,,,
1. my Garmin Mk2i Decent does not loose my tanks like the Perdix AI does because it is a line of sight connection.
2.) Garmin I only need to charge once every 2 weeks
3.) Garmin you will need to adjust it to your needs and yes before it is mentioned the GAUGE screen if it gets activated and the phone gets wet you are screwed for 24 hours
4.) Mk3i will read your tanks and your dive buddies tanks up to 30 feet away ( shearwater cannot do this ) 5.) MK3i has short message point to point divers with mk3
6.) Shearwater Perdix 2 AI units are easy to pair to the unit
7.) screen is bigger and brighter than the mk2 2 buttons vs 5
8.) shearwater battery gets chewed up quickly be prepared to swap batteries per every couple dives
9.) Garmin screen is small and if you wear readers be prepared to get magnifiers for your mask ... I use +1.5 on land for reading and +3 for my dive computers ( as bifocals ) .
10.) you will get many opinions and many favorites from other divers,,, if you can touch and try do such
Me persoanlly I like the layout of the shearwater, but hate the size for its bulk ( horrible on tec shore dives for depth in Japan it is a rock magnet. ) the garmin you can do a roll and put the watchface internal on the wrist protecting it from clown divers trying to jump on you going out while you are returning.
I plan on getting a 3rd and 4th unit one Divesoft... ( it is a bit clunky, but there were features I liked ) and I do see a Mk3i in my future when the bugs work out
My shearwater... I may retire, but that is TBD I only mention that due to their horrible Software and no SDK like Garmin.

Something is really broken with your Perdix or your batteries or both. That’s not normal.

New unit magic shearwater clown power of the perdix 2... fyi I do not have it set to micro bright/dim for a 1 year old owls eyes setting in pitch black darkness... it is not broken it is designed for a "certain" "ego" ,,, I just am not that "ego" {insert some fad cult stuff}... I need a computer which does not get caught up or stands out like a huge wart on my forearm asking for damage. plus the shearwater is just the little it bitty backup to my Garmin mk2 computer the little helper the weak child to backup if something goes wrong on a dive until I can afford a second Garmin... I hope its battery draining powers do not kill it before a dive completes. I also use it w AI as a backup to the mechnical psi/bar gauges SIX to EIGHT dives if your lucky ( NOTE BEFORE SNAPPING BACK I HAVE IT ON HIGHEST BRIGHTNESS SO I CAN READ IT UNDERWATER )
The unit may be good for moles and people with night vision, but that is not I ... if i was diving in MUD or pitch dark maybe the brigtness could be turned down maybe it could go longer but that is not the case.
