I'm a Fish!
Im about to go on a dive trip, and will be trying out my brand new Mares vector BC with Airtrim and integrated.
The day boats take often 20 or more divers.
I don't want anyone to accidently borrow my stuff on a permanent basis.
Could you give me your thoughts and ideas on providing security for my gear.

if you are really parinoied you can get one of those small locks and lock up ur bag when you put your gear back into it.

Think.

Start by placing an adecuate curse on your gear.
For example: if someone steals my fins they'll go down fine, but they are cursed to never come back to the surface.

OTOH, seems to me that sharing a dive with 20 strangers has a lot more issues that just having something stolen.

I leave my guard monkey Tito in charge of things. Charter captains don't usually mind him since he's pretty good at handling lines and leaves his bananas dockside. That monkey in Pirates of the Carribean is actually based on my Tito. If you pick up my airfare from Boston to Heathrow (and a few nights accomodations) I'll bring him along and he's all yours for the day.

Oh, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Divers usually seem to be pretty stand up people. I wouldn't even think about it, or about getting hit by lightening. Just relax enjoy the diving.

Before I hit the water, I put all my stuff in my mesh bag and pee on over it.:D

Seriously, the only stuff I've ever lost on a boat was my fault (stepped on, fell overboard, etc.).

I've never had any problems with others stealing my gear. I have found divers to be likeable, helpful, and honest. (Don't know who you are diving with...maybe look into it a little more).

Like everyone else says, mark your gear and keep it all together. Keep your bag under your seat on the boat and keep track of your stuff. Works for me. Good luck and try to be more understanding of those who "don't even speak your language.
