I'd never heard of that term before ("strokes"). I did a search and found this.

I think it is a serious article, but it's kind of hard to tell at times:

Rule #1: Don't Dive with Strokes.

Is DIR some sort of diving cult?

Why, yes it is. We're zombies who can't think for ourselves and blindly follow our leader.

CLOSE THIS DAMN USLESS THREAD!!!

It might just possibly be just that...... :eyebrow: IMO

CLOSE THIS DAMN USLESS THREAD!!!

Why? people are still posting and people are still reading, it's a clone of every other DIR (non-DIR forum) thread. It would be like closing a BP wing/Jacket or Leisurepro thread.

If you read that article carefully, the author offers some pretty reasonable advice for nearly any diver - regardless of how you categorize yourself.

With regard to closing the thread, somebody go find 'Do It Easy' and tell him an opportunity to claim the last post is developing, and that he should beat feet over here.....

Tell me when the smoke alarm goes off, dude!

:D

The vast majority of the world's divers are not tech divers. They're vacation, resort, and warm, clear, open water divers. For all of us "vacation divers", DIR just doesn't apply. We're just fine in our jacket style BCs, single 80 without a pony, optional computer, no backup mask, no light, no tables, wetsuit optional.

So what are you saying, that they're mad because a very small minority refuses to dive with 'em?

Using either that "optional" computer or tables is pretty important, and "wetsuit optional" came across allllll wrong. :rofl3: Some hoses are meant to be clipped off!

i had an interesting experience on a reef dive in akumal. i went down with a couple of newbie DIR divers (<100 dives) on a 30-40 foot reef dive at night. there were a couple of other non-DIR divers on the boat with us. when we went to do our stops i was incredibly light (completely unfamiliar gear and weighting in saltwater) and after 2 minutes of trying to breathe through the bottom 10% of my lungs i called it and we surfaced. a couple of the newbie DIR divers made a comment about how "i bet the other divers blew off their stops" and i got to flatly say "nope, i cut ours short because i was underweighted, they're still down there". they did a nice, precise 3 minute @ 15 foot stop (perfectly vertical...) and surfaced after we did...

So what is the DIR purpose of the broken bladed steak knives that are typ. unsecured in a belt sheath?

So what is the DIR purpose of the broken bladed steak knives that are typ. unsecured in a belt sheath?

Its so that we don't accidentally stab ourselves.

My "steak knife" is pretty darn secure in the belt sheath. It serves the same purpose as any other knife; to cut. :)
