The article doesn't give too many details. Just that five people were injured because their boat overturned in the Boynton Inlet. It does name the charter.

We were at the beach yesterday and the waves were really big for south FL. Good for surfing...bad for boating. Hope everyone one ends up ok.

You can read the article here.

Damn?! And that was no six-pack boat, either - if they were out in their 36 footer. Loggerhead Dive Charters of Boynton Beach, FL I don't know much about boating, but it guess it can happen to anyone even with good piloting. Now I don't feel so dumb being the only one to wear a snorkel vest onboard when I do; should more often.

I would not let this event change how you feel.

I aways have my wetsuit on when going in or out of there.

Wow that is a pretty good size boat. But, 8-10 ft waves are pretty big. I think I would have passed on that trip. It would be really hard to get back on the boat wouldn't it???

Difficult, dangerous - yep. But if the waves kick up bigger while you're in the water, it's still the thing to do - carefully.

I thought the usual guideline was if the waves are 1/3 the length of the boat in size, stay in an drink beer!

What a shame! But why go out in such weather? I just took this off the marine forcast page for that part of the world: SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY EVENING

It's one thing to check out the forecasts, and another to look at the actual sea conditions. While forecasts are helpful, they are not always accurate. Check out the current conditions at the Boynton Inlet.

Also, knowledge of local conditions is crucial, especially when navigating an inlet as difficult as this one.

WARNING:
Present conditions warrant caution for boaters utilizing the South Lake Worth (Boynton) inlet.
As a result of recent wave and current action, the ebb shoal and return bar located outside of the inlet built up in height and moved closer to shore, thereby restricting safe passage for some boats during periods of high swells or low tides. Local knowledge and caution is advised.

Due to Tropical Storm Noel, the waves have been at least 8-10 for the past week. In addition, Boynton Inlet is hazardous in the best of weather. With seas tthat large, it is treacherous and quite frankly any captain taking out a charter in those conditions through Boynton Inlet ought to have his liscense suspended!
