See, I knew this video would have value! She's using the Octo as her primary (GASP) because she has an integrated secondary on the inflater. The long hose you see on the left is a Tekna (yeah, that's T-E-K-N-A) HP console. It's "normal" size, she's just small. Let's assume for a minute that her equipment works well and is configured correctly.

What are you missing?

OK, it's not the equipment that we're looking at. Hmmm...

I see her picking up some toys and then swimming by you in the pool. What AM i missing?

What's wrong with a TEKNA??.that's the exact triple console I use-----since '85 no less......and.......I love it, plus it's been paid for for 24 years.....

EDIT: if you ever want to sell it, contact me.......

EDIT II:..here's a pic of my wife & my rig in LC using 'it'.....look familiar???

Could say something kinda ugly right now---------------but I'm not....:shakehead:

Is she a PadI instructor by chance?

That Tekna console is nice, that depth gauge is a diaphragm unit, very accurate with a following needle.

Nice camera, seems to have a good, wide field of view unlike my old video unit despite a dome port, good luck with it, hope you enjoy it.

She attached her computer (pressure gage and depth gage) to her BCD in a way she cannot read it.

buoyancy control

BINGO !!!

Watch how she approaches, moves and floats just a few feet off the bottom of the pool. Neither she nor her fins ever touch. Shortly after shooting this clip I put her in a full 3mm wetsuit to see how she would do. She's grown quite a bit over the last year and hasn't worn one in more than 6 months.

Can you believe, I didn't need to add a single ounce of weight with that wetsuit? Again, perfect buoyancy control by breathing only (well mostly perfect, after all I am her Uncle and I do like to brag, LOL!). I watched her for the 45 minutes we spent underwater and she never touched the inflator. She never wore any weight the entire time she was in the pool.

Sometimes we get too focused on the gear (including me) and forget its the simple stuff that makes diving easy and fun.

Now just to follow up:

THANKS, lemon, I appreciate the compliments on the video.

My niece is using a ScubaPro jacket with Air II integrated inflator. She gives the Octopus and breaths the Air II. Not particularly what I like, but she trained it and feels comfortable. I've put her through the OOA crash test and she did quite well so, it's all good.

diver 85, you got me all wrong brother! Only OLD SCHOOL divers know Tekna, LOL! They made the BEST gear. My girl's breathing a Dacor 950 XL with that console, BTW. I had the triple gauge with the BT, but the battery went bad, dagoneit. I raided my garage dive shop to outfit her. Needed to make certain she loved it and grew some before we talk about buying new stuff. I'm moving her to a wing this summer.

:D

Thanks for the chat ya'll...

I agree, outstanding buoyancy control. My grandson can do the 'buddha' style sitting thing in mid water. He will be a better diver than any of us one of these days.

Yes, I know Tekna. I STILL use Tekna masks and snorkels. When I bought my gear in '88, the store was out of stock on Tekna regulators so I bought the Oceanic Omega II. I am still using it! I still have my Tekna dive bag but it has seen better days. I guess humping 2 sets of gear with a case of beer in the dry pocket didn't do much for the stitching. But it's been all over the world and should probably have its own frequent flyer miles.

Congratulations to you and your niece. Good work!

Richard
