Nikki - I'm headed to Sydney tomorrow to catch a cruise from there to Honolulu via Tahiti and the Cook Islands. I return on or about 4/27. :)

went out on saturday for a few drops, we dove the capt tony, and 2 drops on the reefs. water temp was 68-70 and vis was about 40ft maybe more. we had a great time and the local Alex shot some huge grouper on the outside. we got a chance to use our new camera but i left the sync cord in the truck so no strobe this time.

Well I'm glad to hear that everyone is having fun.... that's what it's all about. Brian, have a great trip man!

I'm going to try to chip away at the heap of reports I'm tardy with. I'll start with Thursday. Thursday was rough. The waves weren't huge, but they were coming from three different directions, which made for a pretty rough ride. Seas were 3-5'. I'm having trouble remembering all of the details, but I think that Thursday was the beginning of an interesting upwelling. Our normal Gulf Stream water blew out to sea somewhere, and Ft. Pierce's water slurped down to fill the void. We also had some cracking clear but really cold water come up from the deep. The vis was between 20 and 30 feet, but there was alot going on. I think I clocked the temps at 72.

We went back out on Friday and did the Captain Tony and Gazebo. The seas played a trick on us by acting 2-4 at the inlet, and then swelling up down south. At least the waves were mostly coming from one direction, but the net result was that the ocean was still a bit more rugged then we would have liked. I'd call it 3-5, mostly 5. We did have some pretty cool dives though. Unfortunately, the upwelling worsened and now the 72 degree Ft Pierce top layer (down to about 70 feet) concealed a 66 degree layer from the deep. The good news was that below 70, the viz was around 60-70 feet. On the second dive, we stayed up on top of the reef in the warm (72) water. The vis was about 15 feet there, but man there were butt tons of fish! Slight north current on both dives.

I found a lionfish on the top of the superstructure, which we removed after we took a few pictures.

You have to post them online somewhere (The SB gallery works) and then use the IMG tag to link them in.

I hope it was quick and painless... :depressed:

I promised to report about dropping weight (really this is just a plug for Kevin's ego ) but haven't had the chance yet and it's kinda interesting. I did a Pompano area wreck (ahhhhh, I miss the Explorer ...) yesterday and hopped in without the weight. The DM had warned us the current was intense, but I didn't expect 3 of 5 divers to miss the balls and need to be re-dropped; while swinging around for the second drop I added the weight :). The current was, well, I don't know the word for ripped-my-hood-off-my-head (DM later said it was 2+ knots) and a couple big, bad DIR guys (hey, they were ragging me ALL DAY) made it to ~17' then called the dive. I will admit, it was unsettling to spend 5min and 400psi just to get to 90' on a down line, then leave the bottom w/ 1225 and climb on the boat 9min later w/ 850. Today was in the same water so I donned the weights when we left port :). I'll circle back after I figure out how to convince the sea to listen to me.
