My husband told me about a friend that was wreak diving without gloves, because it was last minute rentals no gloves! in mexico..I think Cancun? or Cozumel? he got a few little cuts ...and later had to grab the ocean floor cuz of currents...a couple days later, he became really sick....something attacked his lungs and he had to have a operation... so is the ocean worse than land? what type of infection? do u think it was?? thanks "I'm scared" No glove policy in Cozumel

Hey, judging by your Avatar you have no problem kissing fish so I'm surprised to hear you're squeamish!

:D

But seriously, your husband's friend's lung trouble almost assuredly had nothing to do with him touching a wreck or the ocean floor.

So many things to touch upon here....

So you know it wasn't Cozumel then, right? (because they wouldn't have rental gloves in the first place) (not that any dive op in Mexico would trample local regs)

You ask: What type of infection? Heck if I know- you tell us- what kind of operation did your husband's mailman's second cousin have on his lungs? (Sorry- the inference of a "lung operation" just sounded all so urban myth-like)

On land, you generally have the option of not stepping in poop. In the ocean, alas, you are swimming in it. Don't fret the Sharks- it's the small stuff that will kill'ya.

So many things to touch on here....

But not with your paws. (gloved or not)

Consider it Darwin in action. Touch stuff, and you'll die. Or you'll increase those chances dramatically.

He "had to grab the ocean floor because of currents"?

No, he "had" to grab the ocean floor because he was inept.

Darwin will getcha.

I gotta dive w/ you sometime - you sure post some interesting things :D:rofl3: Any plans to be in S. Fl?

As Doc and others have responded, little chance the lung infection - hope he's feeling better, BTW - having anything to do w/ diving, other than it happend soon after.

OTOH, if you touch coral, rocks, or anything else living u/w, and you get a cut, there is a good chance you are going to have a reaction, and perhaps infection, because those living things you touch can cause it -even a little scrape can (will) be a problem.

But we do the corals much more harm than they do us - and the "no gloves" policy is a good one, as it "reminds" divers - especially newbi's - not to touch the corals and rocks

I think its because I'm watching that darn new show on the Travel channel ....BITE Me? with Dr. Mike? Gosh, I'm afraid of the nasty worms my dog can give me now!!! Bed bugs...tape worms.. I just need to not watch that show...

If he got a lung infection wouldn't it have been something he inhaled.
Maybe bad air, could have been in the airplane, could have been lots of things.

If you cut your hand on a piece of metal on land then stick your hand in the dirt you'll probably get an infection that way too.
