Soon Shark Week will begin, and once again, all the advertising is negative against sharks. Shark attack is again the theme and it's about time Discovery moves on to put sharks in a better light. This type of hype is what feeds the anti-shark frenzy and makes it that much harder to fight for their very survival.

I suggest we all put our opinions out there to how Discovery does more damage than good in Shark Conservation. The website is defnitely much better, but when you advertise day in and day out people being attacked, it really trumps any other efforts.

Please send them your comments and maybe we can improve Shark Week. Public education and support is the only way we can truly save such an incredible creature!

PS: I took the "What kind of shark are you?" quiz on the website and I am a GREAT WHITE! No surprise there! I do like to bite when provoked! http://dsc.discovery.com/sharks/what-kind-of-shark-are-you-quiz.html

Funny, I'm a great white shark as well. Not what I expected. Maybe we're related?

I caught my wife cheating on me with a Caribbean reef shark the other day and got a picture for evidence.

I'll send my two cents to the Discovery Channel. Al least they haven't posted any shark fin soup recipes on their website.

Nice shark personality profile. But I think there is a typo in the results

You're like a... Great White Shark! You are the most dominant and aggressive shark known to man! You hardly have any predators because you are at the top of the food chain. Your 3,000-plus teeth are razor sharp and help you rip your food apart into chunks so you can swallow it without chewing. You can live about two months on one good meal. You mainly enjoy swimming alone in cool waters in the Southern Hemisphere, and you are the least intelligent of all sharks.

Least intelligent

LOL! It figures...well I may not be the smartest fish, but I do have a great smile!

I never got any shark attack in my area. There was one time that completely changed my views of sharks when I saw a pair of leopard shark swimming side by side as if they were boyfriend and girlfriend.

Yay! I'm a hammerhead shark. I remember feeding a baby hammerhead in vietnam two years ago and it was so cute. I put shellfish into the sand and watch the little guy dug in and grabbed it.

No more shark week for me. I think TV for me is way too much already.

Shark Week angers me. I cannot watch any of the shows (or most shark shows) due to the negative light they paint these animals in and how they mistreat them. :(

I got the same results, I am a Great White.

I also very strongly do not like the way shark week makes sharks look like they are the devil!!

Sharks are awesome, and My favorite creature!

Please, everyone, use the link mentioned above and here (http://extweb.discovery.com/viewerrelations) to tell Discovery your disssatisfaction with their programming choices. Here is the comments I sent them:

"I am disappointed to see your programming for this year's Shark Week. Once again, Discovery is going to sensationalize the rare shark attacks that occur rather than promote shark conservation. Where is the programming discussing the millions of sharks killed by humans each year, most simply for shark fin soup? As an avid diver and shark enthusiast for many years I used to enjoy the educational efforts of Shark Week. However, the last few years have left me disgusted. Yours is an outstanding educational network. How about educating people on sharks rather than simply playing on their fears for the sake of advertising revenue?"

The only way to get them to change their programming is through a groundswell of viewer complaints. Please ask everyone you know to write to them as well.

Doug

I love Shark Week. Lots of great information about various species of sharks. The commercials, well come on its just a ploy for ratings. However distasteful. Some of the programs are great and educational IMHO.
