I think it is just common sense to always have a cutting tool when diving.

The tool I have is a knife and I wouldn't take it off for some DM.

Beautiful attitude Jeff. I would put you ashore if you did not comply. Don't feel bad you wouldn't be the first.

BTW speaking of common sense.....out of the tens of thousands of dives made here every year, how many times have you heard of divers getting caught up in monofilament fishing line? The number 0 comes to mind.

Actually, its your attitude that sucks.

Asking a diver to remove a piece of safety gear??? or else you will leave them on the shore.

and then say I have a bad attitude.

too funny

I am asking you to comply with a Federal law governing the marine park. To allow you to violate the law reflects on me and I won't have that. What part of that is hard for you to comprehend?

From your response it is also apparent that you are selfish (you have absolutely no concern about how your actions may affect the op or DM) and belligerent ("it's your attitude that sucks"...that's nice). But mostly it indicates that you have not much knowledge about diving in Cozumel if you really think you need the knife.

Do you think you can come to another country and pick and choose the laws that you will follow? LOL! Go for it.

And so repeats this silly, stupid argument. It'll apparently never go away. You can justify your position seven ways from Sunday. Call it "safety gear." Try to quote some book or website where a knife is listed as required. That changes nothing. The local regulations override any of that.

Look at that object strapped to your leg or BC. Is it a knife? Are those things on your hands gloves? If so then you have a choice: Remove them or don't dive in Cozumel. It's just that simple.

I comprehend, I just don't agree. I guess reading comprehension isn't required to be a DM.

I am the customer.

and I don't you have much knowledge of diving period, given that you look at the world with blinders on.

Do you think you can come to another country and pick and choose the laws that you will follow? LOL! Go for it.
wooooooooooooooooooooooooosh

I'll just go to one that doesn't have stupid rules or chest thumping DM's.

Why not wear shears? Why be so stubbornly resolved to not bend even the slightest bit so as to obey a federal law, when there is such an obvious and simple solution? It just seems childish.

Why should I change my kit?

Childish? No. In fact, until today I didn't know of the knife rule. I heard of the glove rule. (other places have it) I don't wear gloves in warm water locations, so it wouldn't impact me.

So in my case I would be showing up in Coz...having some DM demand I take off my one piece of safety gear. Would I take it off??? In reality, maybe. Either way I wouldn't be too pleased and I really wouldn't be pleased with the DM if he had even half the attitude of CZMDM.

I happen to agree with the intent of the rule...I just think the rule itself borders on silly/stupid.

I'm reasonably certain I could carry a knife on a dive and nobody would be the wiser.:whistling:

I did 15 dives and nobody knew about it. I was not "hiding it" per se. It was where it always is which is somewhere that is accesible but not highly visible.

I don't think most DMs make it their number one priority to look for knives.

Good thing you work in the customer service business. LOL

I am a dive instructor, boat captain and DM. I have helped produce U/W TV commercials and TV specials. I am not a ***** that has to cater to any demand a fool may make, illegal or not. Part of my job is to see that the park laws are enforced.
