I wonder if Whale Wars and Captain Paul Watson had just a little bit to do with this???

Paul Watson's approval ratings in Japan are probably just slightly higher than those of Adolph Eichman in Israel. I have Japanese relatives and friends and you cannot overstate how much of a pariah Watson and the Sea Shepherd organization are. If WW and PW had any effect on the elections it was probably because the public there felt the LDP wasn't taking a hard enough line against the SS.

As in your example, many people saw Orcas and other whales toothed or not, but still not all of those humans grabbed a harpoon and chased them.Even they may have every chance to do so.

What Tigerman says that only humans act with their thoughts while hunting. If there are only two whales left in the world I don't think anybody will hunt them. Can you say the lions will do the same if there were only last two gazelles left in their environment? Will they act thoughtfully as you claim and choose some other food source instead of eating that two last tasty gazelles?

It seems like you think that it is humans' right to hunt but just not everyone does it.

So let's just sit there & wait until there are just 2 whales left in the world before the hunt stops.

Can't we all just hug a tree? I mean, I don't want to see any more whales killed either but endangering the lives of your crew and another ships crew. Not to mention boarding another ship in the absense of any official jurisdiction or authority is just plain stupid. According to the law of the sea, that idiot should have been keel-hauled on the spot.

Absence of official jurisdiction might also mean that the whaling boats can do whatever they please... So they would continue the hunt?

What would the new govt's conservation stand be?

Yes-yes save the poor animals but don't endanger, maim, cripple or kill human beings to do it. Period!

My point is that Capt. Watson is irresponsible and wreckless.

or he is fed up with and tired of blow hard political non-solutions.

and how exactly do we know the thoughts going through an Orca's mind when they decide not to eat a human. as far as we know man is the only creature who has thoughts of compassion (or whatever) towards animals that could be on the menu, but since we can't communicate with any animals we really don't know.

To everyone who says Paul Watson isn't a terrorist because his cause is a good and just one...

I'll remind you that the men who flew commercial airlines into the World Trade Center believed in their cause even more than Mr Watson. Unlike him they embarked on a mission the ensured their own death if it was to have any chance to succeed.

There are millions who agree with their cause.

Same goes for the Crusades. The Anglo Knights invaded land that they had no claim to and killed how many in the name of God. Of course it was okay because their cause was good and just...

Then there was the inquisition, of course their cause was good and just so it was okay for them to brutally torture anyone they pleased.

My point being: How is Paul Watson different for any of these examples? Oh yeah, you agree with him.

And, Watson is an incompetant A$$

Paul is a terrorist in the sense that he wants to terrorize the whalers. I don't condone ramming into another ship, but other than that, what he does is relatively harmless and comparing him to religious terrorists is plain stupid.

The problem is that we have developed our technology well beyond our sense of responsibility. It doesn't make much of a difference if whales are hunted down or die in a couple of years poisoned somewhere else or starve to death. Most governments don't really care about the environment since there is no economical gain. We go to war and kill hundreds of thousands of people for oil, so go figure what governments will do to save animals.

Change will come when there is nothing left. Groups like Green Peace etc. should start collecting DNA samples of the species they want to save. If somehow we achieve a world in which the living standards of people are more or less equal and we stop killing us for money or myths, then we can start bringing animals back.

Paul Watson and Sea Shepherd accomplish nothing, they provide a rallying point for the true believers, but that's about it.

He doesn't stop them from harpooning the whales, he couldn't stop them from being brought aboard the processing ship after they were killed.

The only awareness raised for most people , is that there is a madman ramming japanese ships, somewhere far away.
