I've been thinking about taking a diving trip to the Similan islands. But from the news, Thai government is in trouble again. So, can anyone currently in Thailand give me some info about the situation at the moment? Overall, is it still safe to go diving in Thailand recently?

Many thanks:wink:

Yes. its totally safe to travel to Thailand. Just stay out from covernment district in Bangkok. During last mutinies it was also safe for tourists eventhough the issue was wide spead to all around.

I agree! Things tend to be isolated. Use common sense and try to avoid areas with large crowds. Things in the news tend to look worse then they actually are. I would book as the Similans season is just right and you may find some good deals as a result of the current situation. Boats also may be less full thus easy to get an upgrade if you take a standard cabin.

No problem....and no problem expected. Even if the worst thinkable situation comes it won't effect tourists and specially not in the south.
The worst thinkable situation is that there are violent clashed between red shirts and police in a few small spots for a very limited time in the center of Bangkok.

I would not hesitate to travel to Thailand or Bangkok for that matter. Just avoid the protestors. The news tends to make it look a lot worse than it is.

There are no problems in Phuket - the only time I have heard about the protests in Bangkok is on the TV news.

Everyday its blue skies, flat seas and no rain. The big fish are out there with regular sightings of mantas and whale sharks.

Songkran will be happening in mid-April - come and join the biggest water fight in the world.

Thailand remains deeply divided politically. But this round of demonstrations is limited to certain parts of Bangkok and is already on the wane. In any event, the worst effect visitors to Bangkok had experienced this week was some nasty traffic jams.
If you are heading straight to Phuket/Similans you are not likely to encounter any trouble.

Just don't wear a Red or Yellow shirt and you'll be fine.

If not tagging in style issues with these colours, you are totally fine to wear these as a farang :D

Many thanks, guys! I have no hesitation left anymore. Can't wait to bathe in the sea and go diving~~~~~:D:D
