A wet lens is designed to handle the uw pressure and sealed to prevent water from getting to the internal elements. Topside lenses do not have to worry about these things. Your housing is rated to a depth of 130 ft. Your lens has no such rating since it's a topside lens.

My guess is the lens will work OK at first, but over time water will leak in, especially if you do a lot of deep dives. It may be the 1st dive or the 50th. Really interested to hear how it works out. If it lasts a bunch of dives, we have an alternative to the expensive wet lenses.

well i used the new lens last night on a dive and it worked great ... the only thing i had to do was Burb the air bubble between the macro lens and the wide angle... I did this by unscrewing them ... so this lens works great with no issues.. I will have the video up in a bit ..

Thanks. Do you have any underwater footage with the wide angle lens ? It's great we have an alternative to the expensive wet lenses.

yeah, nice footage!
to embed here you take the info after the = marks, put it inside the brackets, first bracket has YT and last has /YT. These are the brackets to use: [ ]
I can't show you how it will look without getting an error, so hopefully you can follow my instructions.

Look forward to seeing underwater footage from the wide angle lens. Great to see cheap alternatives to the mega expensive wet wide angle lenses.

I'm putting a $99 topside wide angle in a dome port on my Ikelite housing. Should have it in the water next month.

interesting points being made. Do any of you guys know if dome lens is found as a topside model too ?
INON Superwide Lens Dome Lens Unit for UWL-100 [TOP]

Not sure I understand your question. The Inon UWL 100 is a wet wide angle lens. It's been around for a while, originally designed for photo and later used for SD video. If you add the dome port to the lens you get additional UW coverage of approx 25%. The dome port attaches to the lens, not the housing and it does not do anything topside.

I used this lens and port on my old standard definition camcorder/housing. It worked great, but was very negative UW. I've read about people trying it on HD housings with mixed results. Might have something to do with SD cams are 4:3 and HD is 16:9 in the frame dimensions. There are some threads on it in the video section on the wetpixel forums.
