I have safety sausage, knife, extra clip. Pretty soon I will also have a spare mask in my other pocket. Also depending on my mood and who is diving I sometimes bring a prank or two in my pocket..

great idea using a dvd as a signal mirror. Gave me a "duh" moment!! It was on my list of things to buy for my upcoming west palm beach dive. Don't need one for my lake diving at the moment off a boat but definitely want one for the ocean. Thanx for the tip.

No BC pockets (BP/W and Hog harness), but I use drysuit pockets as follows:

Left pocket:

DAN tag
Surface emergency kit (Glo-Toob, Storm whistle, signal mirror, strap)
Flexible snorkel
SMB
Finger spool

Right pocket:

EMT shears
WetNotes w/ Aquapencil
Spare mask

Cutting tool, folding snorkel, finger spool in the pocket. DAN SMB with safety stuff (whistle and whatnot), backup light, and ID tag clipped to the BCD. Buddy carries the backup computer so we're not stuffed on multiple day diving if one computer gives out. Wish I could fit another pocket for the wetnotes, but only one will fit round my waist

You did not mean that computer is your plan for a backup computer in the middle of the dive, did you?
If your buddy is carrying a backup computer on her/him that is their backup computer. It is only good for that one diver.

While a good buddy team should have only slight difference in profile, computers allow for longer dive time because they track a multi-level dive profile and calculate your tissue saturation. You might be only 5ft lower than your buddy for only 5 minutes but that changes your profile in the multilevel multiple sample computer tissue saturation model. You can no more switch to that computer in the middle of the dive than I could switch to tables. You could switch to it 24 hrs after it and the computer was out of water.

My bcd has no pockets, and to be honest over the years I can't recall anything I've put into them when I have had them besides trash found on the bottom from time to time.

Air? or not?

  • Spare mask strap - ive had mask straps go on me before so i like to have a spare
  • Bit of string with carabinas on each end- useful for attaching equipment to the boat at the end of a dive and lifting light stuff
  • Mini dive table - I can generally remember the table times in my head but its handy to have if i want to double check

Everything else i just hang off my BC

Light, slate, AOL CD. Shears if I'm diving an LP95 and I couldn't be bothered taking the sheath off the AL80 weight belt.
