Best types of Spear Guns

So i'm looking at going spear fishing in the next few weeks here and i am trying to find the right spear gun and i'm finding a huge variety of types and not much in the way of guides and such.

Can someone tell me what the best types of guns are better, i.e. for colder water (if it matters), ease of use, expense, etc. thanks.

I'd recommend asking this in the Underwater Hunting section of the board....

May not be what you want to hear, but ease of use, cost, and as a beginner.... a pole spear. It will teach how to "stalk", how close you really need to be to get an accurate shot, and limits your effective "range" (which is safer when starting out).

AB Biller is the best for scuba imo. JBL is good too.

I shoot with a Riffe Standard #2. There are other brands that are on the high quality list too. AB Biller, JBL.... but I still stick with the Riffe. Great trigger.

I agree with the other posts..................You may want to start your spearfishing career with a pole spear, then move up to a gun. Also, it IS important to know what game you are looking for. If you do elect to get a pole spear, I have had a great time gigging flounder for a few years, early on. Actually, if I go out for grouper and african popano, and flounders are abundant, I spend my dive harvesting the flounder. My Riffe turns into an expensive pole spear! Have fun and good hunting. How would you like to have something stick into you like that. How do you think them fish feel. They are doing nothing then you try to take their life away.
