I think I'm in the category of "advanced amateur" when it comes to taking u/w photos. Main interest has always been video but the size and functionality of the NEX 5 appealed to me as a backup camera.

I went out and took a bunch of pix to get familiar with the camera and put em' in a gallery.

I only had one Inon S-2000 strobe but tried the 18-55, and 16mm with wide and fisheye adapter lenses. This might give you an idea of what they can do. Very few have had any pp done.

Greetings from Switzerland,

Tino

Hi, Were all of these with the 16mm and adapter?

Hello guamrider

The third picture was taken with the 18-55, all others with the 16mm and fisheye-converter.

Hello,

I'm thinking about the nex5, but I'm not interested in fishyes. I prefer to have a normal wideangle wiew, I mean a view about 85-95°, like I had many years ago with my 15mm Nikonos or 24 mm Nikkor on a Nikon F2 and dome port, as in the old film era :)
So, somebody tried the 16mm pankake without fisheye adapter but with the dome port? The good 16mm pankake with the flat port, I think is optically a nonsense.
Tnx
Giorgino

Hi Georgino,

Sony is now shipping a wide angle converter for 16mm that should be about perfect for your needs:
VCL-ECU1 | Wide Angle Conversion Lens | Sony | Sony Style USA

I know Phil used one in Mexico. We also have a few of these at the innerspace event going on in Grand Cayman, and I'm seeing lots of images on facebook, so hopefully someone will post some shots here.

Tnx Ryan,

but I think I do not need such converter: the angle of view is about 100° (18mm equivalent for 35 mm film), too much.
The angle of view of the bare 16 mm is 84°, as a 24mm on the old 35mm film, and that is ok for me. So, my question is simple: can I use the bare 16 mm with the Nauticam dome port? I know some optics and I think the standard flat port must cause a visible amout of aberrations (chromatic, pincushion, and so on) at the borders of the picture. The only problem is if the dome, that Nauticam sells for 16+fisheye, is at the right distance from the entrance pupil of the 16 mm when used without converter, or not.
Somebody already tried the bare pancake with the dome?

Thanks

Giorgino

Hi Giorgino,

Yes, I have tried the pancake lens on its own and the Fisheye conversion with the minidome. Both work very well.

I got my housing recently as well. I had a question for you. How did you get the little camera tray out of the housing? Did you have to unscrew all the little screws, then only it comes off for you to attach to the camera? After that the little screws dont have to be back on right? It's the only last confusing part for me!
