"Ms Bonning momentarily turned her attention to a diver who was apparently using too much oxygen."

Amazing that journalists ALWAYS assume that it's O2 and not air that we breathe underwater. It's actually rare when they get it right.

OK I for one think Gabe Watson is a D-BAG of Epic proportions and personally believe he did it (Not that it matters) but with the linked article (in the OP), there was something I have to ask:

Mr Reilly said Ms Bonning's actions were 'not within cooee' of gross criminal negligence.

:w-t-f: What is "cooee"?

Within the code?

It is a tad ridiculous they cannot check Wikipedia before writing the article. We should come up with an email explaining the fallacy and sent it to all of our local news papers. It would not take that long, and would raise awareness of SCUBA.

Cooee is a type of call.

Not within cooee is a term of phrase to indicate not even close.

Good to see the instructor cleared. A manslaughter charge is pretty harsh if the papers are even semi accurate in their reporting.

Scuba Steve,
In Australia when in the bush (your forest) if you raise your head at 45 degree's cup your hands around your mouth like a loud speaker (see above picture) and from the higher throat/lower mouth at full strength you will project the noise COOOOOOO-EEEEEE, it travels from my experience between 500-1000m, in thick trees (attracts attention) it carries better than a whistle or a shout. And when your in the middle of no where without a mobile works a treat for short distance location of others. Bit like a whale song
