Unfortunately many of the posts have been edited so much of the information is now missing but I know it was there. Assuming the information was correct, it definitely stated that the deceased was a DSD student and therefore a different Amy to who you originally thought.

Their web-site refers to the boat as a 30' Burpee. All other report refer to it as a 25' Lindsey. Perhaps it's just me, but that boat looks a tad small and posiably top-heavy for Florida offshore operation. I doubt I would ever have elected to board for a dive...

I wonder if people are getting the "25' Lindsay" idea from the Documented Vessels database? I looked there yesterday, just to see if "Get Wet" was there, and I found what I believe may be another "Get Wet," also in the Keys, that is a Lindsay. That boat did not seem to for sure be "our" "Get Wet" -- I Googled from both the angle of the Scuba Shack name and the Lindsay boat owner's name, and it *seemed* to be someone else.

Additionally, the photos of the "Get Wet" on Scuba Shack's website show it as a custom 30' Burpee, and the boat looks just like the the other Burpees I've found online (see photos in one of my posts earlier in thread).

It is possible that it's a different "base size" Burpee. I say that because sometimes people measure differently, add something like a platform and change the LOA of the vessel, or etc. Or it may be a 30' Burpee - I did find one other one mentioned at Sub-Tropic (but otherwise many Burpees of surrounding lengths, but not many 30-ers).

I did not see the Scuba Shack "Get Wet" in the documented vessel database, but then it may not be documented (un-documented vessels would be registered to a sate, not federally listed) or I may have missed it.

See "vessel lookup by name" here:

The Get Wet is an Inspected Passenger Vessel, not a 6-Pack. Her record of contacts from the Coast Guard is available Here.

Frank, do you know for sure if this is the same "Get Wet"? I only ask because of what I mentioned above (probably still in the previous post in the thread). If you know this is one and the same "Get Wet," then disregard my previous train of thought.

Here is what I saw in the documented vessels database, which did not seem to match up with the owner of Scuba Shack or with the Burpee (unless Lindsay and Burpee are one and the same?) I'm not trying to cause confusion; but just to reconcile the possibly different owner(s) and possible different make/size of boat. I suppose "Get Wet" is not that uncommon a name.

On the other hand, I imagine you may know the boat or owner, so you may be able to clear this up.

Nope, there is an uninspected Get Wet also in Florida, with FL numbers FL6142DC, and it is also a dive boat. It's summary of CG contacts is available here: Funny that there are 2 boats with the same name operating in the same area? Must be confusing as all get out.

The Get Wet is an Inspected Passenger Vessel, not a 6-Pack. Her record of contacts from the Coast Guard is available Here. Notice that in May of 2010, the Coast Guard told the owner to fix a hole in the hull on the Starboard side. There is no resolution of that finding by the Coast Guard. There are many additional findings, but they probably aren't that serious. I'm concerned about the deck support over the fuel tank. If the main deck let go (was improperly supported), you could take on a lot of water really fast. The Coast Guard is usually very good about keeping these items updated.

The record also doesn't show that she was inspected this year. You can slip your inspection dates a little, but no more than 3 months.

Are we 100% sure this is the same vessel? The vessel listed is 24ft. The Scuba Shack website states it's 30ft.

Either the shop owner is exaggerating on the length (which we've seen before). Or perhaps he brought in a replacement vessel that used it as a OUPV under the same name? dunno.

The hole in the boat would be a major concern if they were still operating with a "band aid" of a patch.

Description of Deficiency

Properly plug hole in bottom starboard side of forward engine room. Unapproved fiberglass patch, must be repaired IAW fiberglass repair guidance, or mechanically plugged. Repair must be made and re-inspected prior to vessel going back into water.

Looks like USCG boarded her August 4, 2011. I'm surprised she was still operating after that. :hm:

EDIT: looks like someone else asked that question while I was posting. whoops...

Mike this is a good find, I know almost all boats leak or sink that is why you must fix or haul out and take to salvage.

Bmsrfan were you on this boat when this inspection took place, If so should you taken the time to report that it was taking out passengers or was making minimum wage keeping you from stopping the boat to leave port.

Wookie pointed it out. I just reference what he pointed out. (not that he's seeking "credit" for the find, but I didn't want to take credit either as he was the one who first noted it.)

Bmsrfan has edited and removed his initial post. (post #16).

But I think he said he was only captain for several months. based on that. he was not likely there during the 2010 inspection.

without reposting the entire thing. he said:
for the past 5 months I have been captain aboard Scuba Shack's Get Wet

With that said, he apparently didn't check to see if the vessel he was operating was properly licensed if it hadn't been inspected since 2010. So that's a strike against him (in my opinion).
