Okay, what's another wild-@$$ed theory to add to the BS?

I am totally making this up!!!!

Ben arranged a bunch of money somewhere, but he's got the IRS on him.

He grabs a friend to help him stage his 'disappearance".

Friend decides he wants the money for himself. Turns off Ben's air (we are assuming he was sidemount, but suppose he was just on a single to do the staging?)

Nature takes its course. Murdering friend takes Ben's body and throws body parts out on the way to Mexico.

End of total BS speculation.

Speculation, Part Deaux.

Perhaps "the money" was/is in the cave !

End of Speculation, Part Deaux.

Yes, we never intended to put anyone in harm's way. We now know only qualified/cave certified trained divers only should attempt such a dive. There probably wil not be a need to re-post the reward anyway. We were mainly hoping that maybe someone kenw something about what actually happened to Ben would come forward leading to his remains. Cave diving needs to be respected for what it is, and there are but a few qualified people who are actually trained to do this sport. It is a fun sport, like rock and ice climbing that our son Paul did. But, a person should be officially certified to participate. Cave divers are very special and most are willing to help look for someonne who is in trouble. We will be forever endebted to everyone who had a hand in looking for our son. May this never happen to any one ever again, and may this be a reminder that safety measures be implemented and folllowed up by owners of all diving locations.

Now we have a drowning at Vortex, and we will never know the person's motive, but there is some feeling that the reward money could have played a role in the accident. I pray that someone wasn't put in "harms way" for this reward money, but as long as it is there, that will always be a possibility. My condolences to the family of the victim.

IN the news today Local dive expert to be featured on 'Disappeared ' | JCFLORIDAN Local dive expert to be featured on 'Disappeared ' Show airs on March 19 on the Investigation Discovery channel By: Deborah Buckhalter | Jackson County Floridan Published: March 15, 2012 A local cave -diving expert will be featured in an upcoming episode of “Disappeared,” a program on the Investigation Discovery channel. So this comes on tonight. but I noticed it was on "Investigation Discovery" instead of just "Discovery" network. Anyone know of when it might be on one of the regular Discovery networks? or streamed online. ? (for those who don't have Investigation Discovery network?

9 EDT on DirecTV channel 285 tonight, according to the onscreen guide. Not sure if that series (Disappeared) ever airs elsewhere.

It's on the Dish Network -- ID is close to the regular Discovery channel, but I don't recall the number. Sorry.

May I make a request?

Please, let's not go here. This is an emotional time and everything will come out eventually. Let's not generate anger on top of the anguish.

Please.

I respect your request. But,just as if we had a fatality due to bad air and the urgency to warn others, then we have a need to make others aware that if any motivation to enter Vortex for reward money is a bad idea.

Y'know, I agree. I'm just thinking that if we wait, that the story, if true, will come out.

But right now, the community is reeling from the shock of the two deaths and emotions are raw. I'm just guessing that escalating emotions could get ugly quick, and a bit of a cooling off period is a good thing. . . . just my .02 psi. :(

170+ posts on the topic doesn't cover your concern?

Jax, most of us dont need a cooling off period. Both divers knew better and im sure that ow diver was told and saw signs not to go in. This is what happens when rules are broke and you dive beyond your skills. People need to start listening to more experienced people.
