If how long a company has been in business is a primary factor in how reliable their regulators are, then Aqua-Lung is the only choice. They were the first.

So dont quote me on pricing - give Beaver Divers a call for your self is anyone is interested the sg-1000 or any other subgear or scuba pro gear.

Fuuny.... you didn't seem to have a problem quoting Jim when claiming his prices were too high. Now that you are saying you got such a wonderful deal you are telling people to contact Beaver Divers. Give me a break.

I know for a fact the deals that can be had on a Hog D1 single tank combo with 2" SPG and Scuba Pro / SubGear isn't in the "range" period unless your range is defined as $<1000 )

For me
Hog BP/W with SS and harness and spg. 5 d rings assembled
Hog D1 cold water 1st and second stages, long hose setup with 2 " spg and assembled.
800 odd dollars all new tax in

3 hours in the pool with Jim Lapenta for free... Priceless

I dont see how 3 times that amount with a faceless corp will do me any better

Hope no minds me jumping onto this thread,,but it has alot of info along the line of what i am thinking.. I and my wife are just taking our open water this weekend.. We both had MARES mv12 regs.. My wife felt it was a little hard to breath tried our instructors Aqua Lung legend,, felt much better so she now has one.. There is no comparisions bewteen the two Legend much better but unfair comparisionn as you get what you pay for.. I will do my open withthe reg I have,, but want to switch out after.. I will only be a warm water rec diver,, but since tech divers dive under more adverse conditions it would seem they test by fire.. Is there a good HOG set up that you can advise for a newbie, good breathing reliable. I live in central coastal Florida (stuart) cant seem to find a dealer to go to..

Go to stuart scuba. Ask for Peter he is the owner super nice guy. he is a hog dealer and has regs In stock.

I just like products from a company that have been proven since the 60's and dont see them going anywhere

Price- was similar in price from the quote i got from Jim on the hog. Casey @ Beaver Divers has awesome prices on subgear and scubapro product!!!

Quality-cant go wrong with scuba pro - been proven for decades!

customer service- Casey at beaver divers was one of the nicest guys i have debt with from a shop in a long time

parts availability- guessing since the mk17 and s600 have been around for along time there should be parts for them when i go to cozumel or most of my LDS

service
availability- same as above- most shops service scuba pro products around me- closest hog dealer was over 3 hours away.

Your misinformed. Subgear is NOT Scubapro. Subgear was a separate brand/company in Europe. They were purchased by the parent company of Scubapro and now sell re-branded Scubapro products. Johnson Outdoors, the parent company of Scubapro can at anytime discontinue the Subgear brand and stop selling parts kits. Dealers could stop servicing them because of the lack of kits. Scubapro could also instruct dealers not to service them using Scubapro part kits. If Subgear becomes too popular and reduces the sales of higher margin Scubapro gear it will likely be discontinued as a failed experiment.

There have been reports of people using HOG kits to service their Apeks regulators so it would make sense that an Apeks kit could be used to service a Hog. So even if HOG goes under there will still be parts availability.

Divers Supply sells a Hog second with a Edge first for around $220, I doubt Casey can sell a SG-1000 for the same price, if he can great.

Like....what were you guys doing in there?

Well let's see. First of all were proper buoyancy checks with wetsuits only. Then adjustment and fitting of the bpw's in the pool and recommendations as to when to trim the straps and how much.

After that it was diving a long hose configuration and how to stow the hose and do air shares. Following that it was practice doing basic skills in the new gear while remaining neutral and in trim as much as possible.

Then it was a few things I consider to be basic open water diver rescue skills with the bpw as the bc they might need to deal with. Those included panicked diver at the surface, unconscious diver from the bottom of the pool, supporting a diver at the surface and dropping their weights, and getting a non responsive diver out of a harness on the surface as a buddy team. After that they had a little more time to just play with the gear.

Standard service for anyone who buys a full set of gear and then comes to me to pick it up as opposed to having it shipped. Only issue is timing it so that I can get the pool.
