I assume he is smart enough to realize that he is not talking to newbies and we know a thing or two.

I think a great many "professionals" in the industry lack that skill. It's why the sterotypical dive shop sucks. They seem to think they are prophets of all things SCUBA and they get threatened when the order of things is challenged. The reality is BeaverDivers being a "platinum" dealer has completly committed himself to one vendor (and to that model) and he expects the rest of us to do the same. That's all the reason I need to discount his opinion amd why I'm unhappy with most LDS's and manufacturers.

Doc how many other users do you defend on a regular basis
Good question and I think the number is about 213,648 the last I counted including you and cerich. :D

Funny thing is, I used to frequent a local shop that made the purchasing experience very painful. A typical conversation with the owner went like this......

Me - "I want to buy a new computer. I kind of like the Suunto Cobra that you carry."
Him - "Yes Mares does make some good computers. Just look at this one."
Me - "I like the Suunto but would also like to upgrade my regs. I like the AquaLung xxx."
Him - "Yeah it would be a sweet package with this Dacor regs set and the Mares computer."

He only heard what he wanted to hear and he only pushed one thing.....Mares. I stopped going to him and he really did not earn much money from me because while I was open to hearing about other brands/models and what they offered, a close minded salesman does nothing to outfit me with equipment that I will be happy with.

He actually sounded a lot like the old BD in that respect (mfr is different of course). I cannot speak to BD as a business person or a diver or anything else but he does have the right to post on ScubaBoard and we have the right to disagree with his posts or to disagree with his business model. For a while I completely refused to read his posts because they were a never ending spewing of self serving sales pitches. When I saw him get called on it, I watched and was happy to be able to read his posts again. He is a smart guy. I may or may not (not) agree with his views of HOG, but I do enjoy reading most if his posts now.

I think we should try to get this thread back on topic and leave BeaverDivers be. There is no need to constantly attack him (and yes I see the irony of me saying that after my last couple of posts).

I have seen BeaverDivers talk good about other manufacturers besides Scubapro. The guy has a favorite brand and he stands behind it (we all do), no problem there. I have seen this on other forums related to guns. The flavor comes and goes. Looks like a lot of this thread is bashing him.

Back to regs- I have no experience with Hog but I am thinking of using one on a pony bottle.

[Jedi Mind Trick] This is not the Droid you are looking for... [/Jedi Mind Trick] :D :D :D

I think the real question is -why do most, "Not all", hog users get their panties in a bunch when someone isn't praising the brand; what happens when someone talks bad about hog? WWW III???

Sound like some crazy raider fans. Hog for life here at scubaboard! Lol

To each their own.
Im happy with my decision not to go with the hog for a few reasons i have already posted. and im sure the hog owners are happy with their purchases too.

Side note used the sg1000 reg thus weekend again and is so nice. Breathed so nice my buddy liked it better than his atomic when we switched for a minute for him to try.

Oh no- are we going to have a bunch of atomic fans here now ?????

I could talk about my antics involving my old and inexpensive Dacor and Aqualung regs.......not a good syllable would be spoken by me :D....and yes they were purchased by me brand new. I did some diving in PA with some DNY friends and my weekend of diving was saved by a ScubaPro reg (there was a spare there because my regs would not stop freeflowing no matter what service was done). So I can say good things about SP, but I too opted to go with a good reg at a lower cost. My HOG's have been good regs. I have had some silly issues with them (maybe user error :idk: maybe not ) but I now have reliable regs that I will dive for as long as I can.

From my perspective the constant "HOG is the best" gets tiresome. But then a constant "ScubaPro is the best" gets tiring too. I have no doubt both are a good reg sets. I haven't seen a HOG set nor spoken with anyone that has a set except in cyberspace. The constant my dogs bigger than your dog does nothing to promote either brand as far as I am concerned.

There are no HOG dealers within 375 miles of my house. That is probably why I haven't seen one nor heard of HOG anywhere but here on Scubaboard.

I saw earlier in the thread that the owner of HOG is in Colorado today. Maybe there will be a dealer here soon. I wouldn't mind looking at a HOG set.

FWIW, I challenge anyone to find where I've said Hog is the "Best". I've said it was the best choice for "me". Issues are:

1) local support ( not a biggie to me )
2) DIN not Yoke ( not a biggie to me as my tanks have pro valves )

That said, what I do get is a very good quality, good performing balanced diagrphram suitable for my local diving at a great price with decent customer service policies regarding parts availability and training for self service.

My buddy dives nothing but used scubapro regs that he picks up for cheap and then self services. That's seems to be the best for him.

i have both HOG and Scubapro regs. i use them bith, but mostly the HOGs. i just reconfigured them for sidemount last night so im sure they will be the go to for a while. only bad thing i can say about my scubapros is that they gave me some serious jaw fatigue. that is easily cured with a different mouthpiece.
