If you looks closely Mike, these are not DRIS lights. These are a "form of knock-off" (might be identical with different logo but nobody really knows). These are not DRIS lights. While they look almost identical, I am going to enjoy my genuine DRIS lights and not risk the money with these.

per the above. chrpai took his DRIS light apart and found the builder name.

I'm sure the DRIS lights are just "logo'd" as these MIGHT be. Even if they are the same builder, there is "no honor in thieves" in these "china repro houses". Any light you buy from anyone could have a "lesser quality part" in it.

I'd say 98% of the time these lights are used (by me) at home for when I have to go search for the family pets at night. They are bright as crap for that.

for $38 bucks (with shipping), I will prob order one just for "round the house" use.

I don't care about honor or thieves. If you buy some, take'em underwater and tell us if they are OK. If they work, I will consider the future purchase. For now, I have what works and am happy with that. For around the house, I can buy cheap lights elsewhere that work and pay less than $38.

There's a whole lot of different cheap dive lights around these days, in all kinds of shapes and sizes, all advertised as featuring a super bright Cree LED (usually the XM-L T6 variant). I've got a couple off ebay for $25 a piece, free shipping. They're supposed to be 1200 lumens, but those are Chinese lumens. But still, something that's probably around ~800 lumens for that little money, I'm not complaining.

The thing with Chinese lights is you don't necessarily know who make's them or what subcontractors, if any, are used. They quickly become commodities, and variations find they're way to the market, with mixed levels of performance and quality.

Buy them from DRIS, and you know they're held to a certain level of quality and backed up if there's a problem. Buy them from EBAY and you take your chances. I already have 4, so am not tempted.

If you just want lumens for land use DX extreme has plenty for much cheaper---I bought several Chinese lumen Cree lights for less than $15 each for tinkering. Batteries and charger bumped the total up, but it was still net less than $20 each.

I hate to say this.... but these same manufacturers that make them for DRIS, are the same ones that make fakes/clones for everyone else.

Copyright, patent, or design laws over there aren't really enforced.

DRIS is just as likely to get "victimized" as any of us. Now days with chinese manufacturing, it's just the way it is...

I have one of those cheep TrustFire TR-J1 lights but after 80 dives it's now giving me troubles. I could replace it with one of these lights but I'm on the fence as what I really want is a great deal on a canister light.

Ok, just to put it all straight

Yes, we have these lights made for us. The 1000 is NOT an exclusive product in the form you see it in the OPs link. In the form you buy it from us, it is 100% exclusive....The shorty is also 100% exclusive.

That light is most likely the same as the original 500 lumen light. We did revisions....triple o-rings, higher output, and much more that I will not name. The reason...we wanted a better light. My assumption is that the person selling those, has a couple samples or something they bought awhile ago and are now getting rid of them. That can happen. We haven't had the light for a long time, so others have tested it out as well. I know a couple BIG manufacturers here that have enquired about the light. It's kind of flattering  Back to the OP link, our light is built better, and we stand behind the product. Any problems, and we just replace them. There have been some issues, but we have sold over 1000 of them in a short time, and we stand 100000% behind the products we sell and put our name on.

I have never heard of one turning purple, but like I tell everyone else. Just send me an email with the tracking number when you send it back, and we will cross ship you a new one at no charge.

The cost that I got my light from DRIS for represents them standing behind it. I have already seen them make sure consumers are satidfied. To me, that is what I am paying for..... not sure I could get the same from this source...

(thinking out loud, remember there was some proto-typing with the manufacturer and DRIS - we saw various versions even from DRIS. These may have been the small batch runs to get to the product Mike/DRIS desired)

edit - okay, Mike was typing the same time as me....

You're right on all points.

This gives us, the consumer, some real bargain opportunities. But with no quality control imposed by the importer every light that shines is sold & we end up with phrases like "Chinese lumens" and lights that corrode or fail quickly with no recourse.

At $38, though, "who cares" is a valid response, of course.

I've blundered upon the web site chrpai mentioned too and note they don't actually offer the 1000lumen or 1200lumen versions...

You have stood behind everything I have ever bought from you (and then some) so I always buy with confidence from DRIS. Whether it is a light, a reg or anything else.
