I hate to say this, but Miami doesn’t have a whole lot going on scuba wise as far as shops and operators go in my opinion. I’ve been diving South Florida for 17+ years, and will stick with Palm Beach, Pompano and the Keys for my South Florida diving trips.

So a local shop in Miami now has a shop policy of wanting to see an advanced nitrox card for mixes other than 32 or 36. Their reasoning is that the regular nitrox courses only give you tables for those mixes so that's all you're qualified to use.

Ask them if they teach the SSI Nitrox class.

Then ask them if they've read the book.

The SSI Nitrox class covers up to 40%. Not just 32 and 36.

They're being greedy.

Any nitrox training i have heard of covers EAD which is supposed to fix that issue of tables.

BSAC nitrox only allows 29%, 32%, 36% on their tables and EAD doesn't work so its not that ridiculous.

Still an idiotic policy though.

Because the guy that wrote the table categorically stated no. Given that there is no way they could teach it from a liability point of view

I have the SSI Nitrox book in my hands right now. It specifically covers mixes from 21% to 40% and the class covers their usage, as do all computers that are Nitrox capable.

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it except vote with your wallet, because SSI has nothing to do with gas sales

Not sure what SSI has to do with BSAC nitrox/tables.

They don't even know what Advanced Nitrox is,do they?

If they live in a PADI bubble, then no.

By the way, do YOU know to what depth the Narcosis Management Level IV certification allows one to dive?

Someone recently change the laws of physics?

Laws of physiology.

And yes, oxygen seems to have greater narcotic potential than nitrogen, so the whole concept of EAD of a nitrox mix is misleading.

Maximum operating depth, MOD, still is relevant. Very relevant.
