So with the construction of the new cruise ship pier, a new dive site is being made....but up north. They have been taking lots of chunks of reef and some concrete structures and are placing them up where the Love Boats are ( 35 ft water). ( I gave that name a few years ago when the Love Bar was still open). Its actually going to be a thriving area with the new structures so some good has come out of the new construction of the pier. The only thing that I see is that there is a lot of traffic up there with boats and jet skis now. A surface buoy would be a smart thing to carry if you do this dive from shore. The currents can be slow or very fast so if you plan to do this dive from shore be prepared. I use dpvs regularly so it makes for a fun dive there. I will take some photos or video when I get some slow time in a few weeks. :D:wink:

where is this? I was never able to figure out where the Love Bar was.

also, what are they dumping all this stuff ON? ...not sure this is such a great idea...

Seriously? The big round thing on the beach just north of the airport road? A little south of the Quinta Maya, the house they let the Prez use.

I think there is nothing but sand out there by those wrecks. Always wanted to dive them, but after going back to the C53, I am put off on wrecks.

I kinda miss Love. It was nice to crash with the windows open and listen to the music from Love. Just the right distance to get just the right volume.

It is kind of a step up that they are moving the reef, huh?

Is this called the North Paradise dive site?

So why not move all the reefs and make the boat rides shorter? And move them closer in too. Devil's Throat at the new Punta Centro would make a cool shore dive.

Because I dive with the fastest boat. Wouldn't be any fun if the boat ride was short.

And seriously, a show of hands: Who expected them to MOVE the reef? Not as good leaving it alone, but still good.

And at the new site, you might see a crocodile!

You can dive the boats and dive out to the wall as well. I have done a few lionfish hunts up there with successful results.

UM- no thank you, way worse than a shark.

And, I have to say- since the options weren't "don't touch the reef" or "move the reef" they were "destroy the reef" or "move the reef", I am very happy to hear they have moved it and tried to preserve what they could.
