I looked at the Trident Price List, I don't see how you are getting such a high mark-up. The price of Christo #129 is $22.95 and the price of #111 is $30.59, Tribo #66 is $20.17 and Tribo 71 is $30.75.

I believe those are retail prices (MSRP) that you are seeing. Wholesale should be fairly close to half. You can also look at Amazon and see what happens when you buy larger quantities.

Does every B1/B2 Atomics reg need to be packed with this much grease? I don't use it for cold water- have a MK17 for that. Atomics is used almost exclusively for Caribbean.

Why even bother with the packing at all?

I don't actually see a problem with this. They're allowed to make a few bucks on parts. If you object, you're always welcome to have it serviced somewhere else.

When I was doing electronics service for a side job in college, 100%+ markup on parts and supplies was common, and just about covered the cost of getting and keeping the parts in stock.

Nobody is getting rich on your regulator.

flots.

I also don't see the issue here if the cost is communicate to OP up front, so it allows OP to choose whether he want to do business with them or not. If OP decided to go ahead with $50, then it is his decision.

However, if the shop didn't reveal the upfront cost, or quoted a $20 ended charging $50, then I would have issue as well.

The Christo-lube-job was the surprise at the end after I got my bill. I was not informed prior.

Update: I spoke to the tech who:

1: Agreed to "make a note" on my account for some "unknown" credit for Christolube on my next service and
2. Assured me that AA insists on Christolube for all their regs and that nothing else can be used and that 2oz is not unusual.

At this time, I'm so pissed with this experience that I just won't ever buy from them again and I'm not pursuing any remedies. It's not worth it.

I would like to scream about the high markup on the Freedom Plate. Feel better now?
I'll tell you what, come work with me for a day in the shop when I'm making them and you'll see what a deal they actually are.

Perhaps another reason to go with diaphragm regs.
Just sayin'.

I have all diaphragm regs and never had an issue with them, also glad I don't have to worry about the "fill them with gunk" issue as well.

I'm not sure what volume 2 ounces is, but it's only used to pack the empty spaces inside the first stage.

I have Atomics, and if for some reason the shop I work for couldn't do them or they were weird about it, I'd just send them back to Atomic.

Atomic has absolutely stellar factory service.

flots.

Another question to ask is did you get ripped off when you bought the reg set and were not informed of the added service cost for Christolube every time the reg is opened up.
Just playing Devils Advocate.

Did you request the installation of the cold water kit to your Atomic Regulator? I dive in Monterey/Carmel area in California. At it's coldest, the water reaches 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Topside, our lowest temperature goes into the 30-40s. However, I will usually be in bed or gorging my self on whiskey, when it gets this cold. My LDS does not recommend using the cold water kit as it does not have any benefit, given the local conditions. I doubt you would need it in warm waters, unless you dive some really contaminated areas.

Perhaps, at your next service you should dispense with it.

O.

I am pretty sure the price list is wholesale, but it could be that scuba packaged units are more expensive.

I meant it as a joke. I realize that it must be a PITA to cut, bend, and polish stainless steel. BTW, are you still a Trident dealer?

I know it was a joke, but the problem with the internet is you couldn't see the friendy but sarcastic grin on my face.

My dealership has been dormant for a long time now, I would have to re-up my status.
But I may have to start ordering accesories parts for plates again since the new model will be coming out fully set up.
