Flew SW into Cancun. Landed at 11:10 am and at the gate at 11:20. Our group of three where one of the last to get all our bags from the plane. Prearranged transfer with Canadian Transfer. $60 USD plus another 3 for drinks. Cleared customs - all green lights - and met outside with a representative that took us to our driver. Left Airport around noon headed for Playa and the ferry.

Arrive drop-off point at Playa a little before 1 pm. Would not have made the 1 pm ferry if we hadn't hired the 2 guys with the trikes at $5 a piece. While I got the ferry tickets my wife and daughter were transported to the ferry with their luggage where I followed in a few minutes. In fact when they were changing the sign to 3 pm for the next ferry when we arrived. Made it by a minute or so. Arrive Cozumel at 1:45 pm. Smooth crossing.

Recap. SW tickets round trip 27,000 pts plus $103 each from Huntsville to Cancun with no additional luggage fees. We choose Early Bird check end which added $30 per ticket. $73 for Canadian Transfer which included tip. Ferry 162 Pesos pp about $9.50 USD.

If we repeat the same process for our return it ends up costing for a family of three $430.50. Keep in mind without Early Bird check-in with SW this figure would be $90 lower.

Well worth the Bag and Drag this time since we had the SW points.

Have avoided it for two decades so far. Haven't ruled it out as an option some day, but keeping fingers crossed to keep avoiding it. However with a bigger family I can see the bigger financial incentive that it makes it more tempting.

The CUN to Playa del Carmen to Cozumel option is easy. If your once a day flight to Cozumel is missed, keep the Cancun option open.

I have not found the so-called "bag drag" to be an inconvenience. A cold cerveza makes the van or bus ride go by quickly, and we actually look forward to grabbing lunch in Playa before the ferry. And I like ferries. I guess to some it's a drag, and to others it's just part of the whole experience. Mexico is easy and fun. Now, dragging my dive bag around the streets of Indonesian Borneo and on little death-trap ferries--that was not easy or fun.

Correction: We drive the night before to Nashville in order to fly SW in the AM. Add another $160 to the total. This is the hotel with 21 days parking. Sorry about the confusion.

Its easy peasy. My van guy is about 600 pesos.
Chief can you send me your van guys #, last time I went down after work on a Saturday the ADO driver managed to take 1:20 to Playa so I didn't get in until around 11PM. How much lead time does he need?

You would have had the option of sailing on one of the other ferries before waiting for two hours.

Hope your trip was good. Did Cancun on SW in January, myself and gf. 30K pts & $130 round trip for both of us. luv SW. Wreck & reef drift dive, saw lots of eagle rays.
