Do you actually see people diving with pony bottles?

Is there a good thread on different ways to sling a pony?

It ain't rocket science.

Rig pony with stage bottle kit. Have some way of holding second stage so it doesn't go dragging. I use a loop of bungee around valve. Some people use a snorkel holder.

You clip it to chest and hip D rings on either left or right side.

Dive with it. Practice in pool or quarry before going on "big" dives with it.

Done.

If you don't dive a BP/W, your BC may not have appropriate attachment points for a pony.

How is that relevant? When out of air you are either using buddy's secondary or you are using a pony. In either case there is no LP hose. As for buoyancy, you don't lose buoyancy when you run out of air. You also don't need to add air for buoyancy unless you decide to descend when you realize you are out of air.
I guess you didn't bother to read the thread you were responding to. It's relevant because he said he was using the pony to inflate the BCD. It seems like an interesting idea, since it's such a simple change I think I may add an LPI hose to the first stage on my pony as well.

I carry a pony for emergency redundancy. Period. I'll eventually be taking solo so being used to diving with pony isn't a bad idea.

Some people want redundancy but don't want to dive SM. I know a buddy pair. One half dives SM. Other half doesnt want SM. They're going to be doing some deeper wrecks in the near future so the non-SM half got a larger pony. Practices with it.

I'll eventually be going SM for tech purposes. But as I have several buddies who dive SM, I see up close what gearing up involves, etc. Single tank BM with a pony is a lot simpler in my opinion, not having done SM myself yet. Even once I've taken my SM class next summer, I suspect I'll still be diving single tank BM with a pony for boat dives and such. Easier on a boat than SM.

[edited for clarity] This goes on the DS, in addition to oral inflate of the wing.....

In addition to oral inflate.....
That's something I "practice" regularly. Mainly because I'm such a gas hog and it's not a bad way to save a little gas.
