I've just emailed Deep6, but I'm wondering if anyone has been able to get a spare pair of spring straps? I'm off on my big trip of the summer in about 8 weeks, and I realized this was one thing I did not have for my save-a-dive kit.

What about a poll on who has ever needed one? My Hollis F1’s have several hundred dives and the springs look like the day I bought them. I carry spare bolts/nuts but not a strap. I check the tension on them routinely and have never found them loose (nyloc nuts). Would be interesting to see who has had a spring strap fail, and by what failure mode.

My thoughts exactly. I did see a pair or mares bungee straps break on my last trip npbut I’ve never heard of spring straps breaking.

I would think the fin would rip before a spring would break.

If you need a spare for peace of mind, how about a piece of thick bungee?

Did you see the bungee strap modification post the other day? I would think that would work great in a pinch and be even better for a back up. Take up less room.

I can have really crappy luck sometimes. I'm going to be in BFE northern Michigan.

Michigan is actually where I am from. Spent 30 years there, beautiful in the summer. I don't know why I never thought of diving the great lakes, just always fished.

The bungee thing was cool, a piece of bungee and a zip tie and it even had a finger loop to pull over. Could make them before you go and try them on. Just a thought.

I've been using these for several years. I do have to replace them after about 800-1000 dives but they cost pennies and can be installed in a couple minutes. They're easier to get your fins on and off than steel spring straps, especially with thick gloves or dry gloves.
I had two spring straps stretch beyond their shape before switching to bungees. I see no reason to ever go back.

If a spring ever breaks, you can make a new ring (if it breaks at the end) or two new rings (to splice at the break) with a pair of pliers (needle nose are easier, and using two pair make it easier yet) in a few minutes. If it's too tight afterward, use the same pliers to "spring" (i.e., deform) a few coils to create a bit more slack. If it's too loose, cut one end and make a new coil; repeat until you have the tension you want on the spring. Such a temporary repair will easily get you through a dive trip, or even a dive expedition.

Just replace the spring when you get a Round Tuit.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever seen a fin spring break?
