I am tearing my hair out with this one. I cannot figure out a reasonable way to route the hoses with the Scubapro Mk17 regulators.

(Disclaimer: I will absolutely get formal training before diving these, for now I plan to try them once or twice this season with an experienced mentor, but he's busy at the moment and I'd like to have everything set up first.)

In a previous thread the following configuration was suggested:

The right post works perfectly as suggested, but I have AL80s with much shorter necks and if I set up the left post like in the above picture the bungeed secondary's hose bends at a super sharp angle which causes folds to appear right below the ferrule and looks generally unsafe.

I've tried every other combination I can think of but the only reasonable way to prevent the hoses from aggressively kinking on the left post appears to be this:

Is this configuration a complete abomination? My planned use for these is open water diving, I have no interest, training, or access to overhead environments where the hoses could snag.

Am I missing some alternative way to route them?

Thanks!

From 2009:
Hose Routing for MK17?

Not much help, I'll grant you...

Yeah, it seems all the examples are from steel tanks with longer necks. I think I have 3 choices:

1. Leave as-is with the silly 90 degree offset.
2. Accept that one hose will be kinked quite badly and just replace it later if it gives any trouble.
3. Get a flex hose for the secondary so it's able to better withstand the sharp bend.

I, as well as a couple others, do not do the"cross" as it doesn't make sense to us (can do a whole different thread on that). Along with that (right side primary and DS, left side octo and wing), the diaphragm down, and a slight rotation of the first stage, and all is well.

Not all the time, but I have also used first stage swivels to align stuff happily.... (my god I am going to die!!!!)

YMMV

You don’t need to have someone experienced on hand when you first dive them! Just take them to a shallow, sheltered spot and have at! Have buddy with a camera to take some video of you. You’ll live! I did it. Still here. :D

The MK25 routes so nice. I suppose somebody talked you into the MK17 for cold water?

The tragedy of the absence of the MK-19 is you can route it like the MK-25. You really kinda don't need the MK-25 if you can get the MK-19. It's kind of the best of both worlds. I have a couple of MK-18s and wish I could get the 18.

But the Mk25 can't be sealed. So I'm on @DiveDay 's side. Now if we were talking Atomic... :poke:
