I would rather inject myself with AIDS than stick some strangers disease riddled regulator in my mouth.
Do you rinse your mask in the communal mask-rinse bucket when you come up from a dive?

One should note that traditional buddy-breathing also uses the same regulator, and PADI Divemaster candidates must do this as one of their exercises.

I dont recall hearing anything on agencies saying not to share during exercises for hygiene purposes. Might want to e-mail them on that one.

one more reason for alternate donate... even if it is just rehearsing.

If you dive with long hose then that is not even an option.

Rinse bucket---Purpose? To get salt water off mask immediately if it will be a while before you get it home to rinse? To rinse it in between dives for some reason?
When shore diving I do my 2 dives, drive home and rinse everything.

The only time I ever got grossed out doing air share drills was with a person who smoked like a chimney.
I could taste the ash tray in the reg. It was pretty gross and was a pretty harsh reality check that the reg was indeed just in his mouth a second prior. We were doing primary donate.

Yeah, what if you had to share air out of the same reg with a super hot chick? Or other super physically attractive person whatever the combo.
How is that any different from a germ perspective? It’s all in your head.

What about doing mouth to mouth to revive someone? Does that gross you out?
Are air shares any different in a time of crisis?

If you’re phobic then maybe primary donate or buddy breathing isn’t for you.

I know I have gone diving even though I had a scratchy throat or some other sign of a possible cold coming on.

I've seen divers with cold sores (herpes simplex)

In the way way back days, I had my own mouth pieces for rentals but very shortly bought my own regs.
