Gear organization advice!

Does anyone put the thick bungee on their milk crates? That is really neat to make it more three dimensional rather than just stacking it in reverse order of putting it on.

I drive to and from the dive site with everything assembled. This way there are no (or at least less) surprises when I get on site.

Clippables all live in a normal milk crate clipped off to bungees ties along the inside edges.

At home, I have Rubbermaid bins that divide gear by type. OC backgas kit (regs, plate, wing) RB backgas (same), stage regs, single tank, vintage stuff, spare parts, misc wings and SMBs.

If I must wait till I get wherever I’m going to assemble my kit, it’s easy to grab the right bin and toss it in the truck.

Lights and cameras live on a section of my bench for charging. Tanks live under the Rubbermaid bin storage shelves. Drysuits and undies go on the shelves too.

Top shelf holds stuff I don’t need to get into often. A few fresh 400g undergarments, a box or two of caths, some spare fins, habitat food tube, etc.

@Manatee Diver and @Zef I used to use milk crates and they work fine for 2 or 3 reg sets, i.e. doubles and a deco bottle, or sidemount and a deco bottle, etc. but since I have to carry a minimum of 5 and usually 7-8, it gets a little annoying when you have to dig in the bottom and still doesn't prevent them from getting entangled with each other *short SPG hoses like to hook onto other things*

Yeah looks like reg bags are in your future. I personally use the reg bag for home to dive site. I put the din cap back on, and the milk crate is for dive site to home where they are rinsed, and hung to dry, and then back into the reg bags.

I used to carry regulators in laptop bags for carry-on when flying....I think cymbal bags might be better.

@PfcAJ the joys of being in close proximity to your dive sites.... That's the biggest issue for me. When I go to cave country, it's an 8 hour trek, same to the coast of NC.
My goal is to have one "main" bin which is what was pictured above, plus a "dry" bin with electronics in it. I try to keep the doubles and sidemount regs in the main bin just to have spares in case something goes sideways.
I have a "ccr" bin as well which is good.
Have you seen the reg bag I use for my double hose? It's super slick

didn't know you were that far away, thought you day tripped cave country for some reason. I do pre-trip checks on all of my gear, but usually bin it before I pack it since it seems we are always cramped on space. Next cave trip in March I'll need to see what it looks like fully assembled. I've only ever done that when teaching with doubles which is usually significantly less gear.

I did reg bags. I got several at piranha dive for 15 each. The zippers on the edge bags seem cheap. I like the scubamax ones he has.

For your “dry” bin you could use a combination of big tub with smaller sterlite containers you stack in it to keep things organized. I have divided stuff up into different see through sterlite containers. Lights in one, photo stuff (fiber optics, filters, O-rings, etc) in one , spare parts (d rings, bungee, bolt snaps, etc), one for spare hoses, reg adapters, fill adapters, fill whip. A pelican for save a dive and tools, a pelican for weights, an ammo can for batteries and chargers. I can just grab the boxes I need and stack them in a black bin. Things stay separated and I know where everything is.

I've only been using this milk crate for the last handful of months. I added the bungee on the corners and near the handles. I'll see how useful it is. I'm sure when you have many of each it organizes better but with my minimal equipment it is hard to lose stuff in a milk crate.
