Correction:
Unconsciously afloat & face down if you have a fully inflated backplate with wing = drowned. That’s why I stick with jacket-type BCD, as I’ll be vertically bobbing at the surface.

haha yeah
I need to actively lean backwards at the surface otherwise I'm face down in the water

And now, my oh my, how the tables have turned

In the event that I was unconscious, rescued and returned to the surface, my wing BCD would require my savior to actively hold me up

Hmmm..

I also have the Hydros Pro and since getting noticed that except for the surface I have little to no air in it while diving. I start out with some air in it but during the dive I never again add air and just dump it instead. Kind of a shame because that BC has a nice inflate button that I wanted to play with when I bought it.

But why the question? What does it hurt to have it just for sh*&$ and giggles?

Look at the title of this topic.
Is is absolutely necessary?
Why not have it?
Why have it if I don't use it?

Just a topic to discuss.

Why do you want to remove it? What advantage are you trying to achieve?

I don't want to remove it.
I was recently getting my regulator serviced and I wondered if I should install the LP inflator hose, since I don't use it.

But before bumbling into a mistake, I thought I'd open up the topic with fellow divers.

Twenty'ish years ago, I'd only be able to discuss this with fifteen people in my vicinity.
The internet makes things wonderful.

For those of you who don't dive with a BCD or never inflate them on a dive, does the 4-5lbs of air consumed during the dive not enough to be an issue?

Which four or five pounds consumed?

not at all. how many liters in your lungs?

Although not as comfortable as a wing or a stab jacket an ABLJ would keep you face up if unconscious.

so more than enough to adjust your buoyancy :)

Ok, I think I'm tracking now. With a 6-liter lung capacity, you can displace 13.6lbs of seawater with full lungs. So, your breathing has to become more shallow as the dive progresses?
