To pre virus conditions no. It's not like there is a cure and as the virus mutates new outbreaks will occur.

I can say that I manage to be COVID-19 free for more than a year.

I am free of the virus that came from China as well. I only need to wear a mask when I go to the city for shopping and I usually do that on a Monday morning when the numbers of people are low. You have to wear a mask in many places by law. Failing to do so will get you fined. You also won't be allowed entry into many places without wearing a mask.

This is the new normal. It will be interesting to see when countries do allow open tourism if a few weeks later they are having another surge in outbreaks in the May - September period. It's quite possible this will happen.

I agree with them. You have excersised your personal freedoms without considering your personal responsibily as a human being.

I am considering my personal responsibility as human being by;
1) being COVID free all this time,
2) testing myself more than monthly,
3) wearing N95 mask properly whenever social distancing is not possible,
4) washing my hands before touching things that are not belong to me,
5) getting vaccinated,
6) traveling to places that are open and in need of tourism to get them recovered from the lockdown,
7) self quarantining for 2 weeks after traveling.

Hello,
I have been vaccinated , wife needs 2nd shot in a week or so.
We have been tested numerous times and will again in 2 weeks and again just before we fly to red sea.
We wear masks, distance as much as we reasonably can and clean hands often but I refuse to follow what I consider to be bad advise that is creating a whole different existence.
I have dan insurance and medicare . Where did you find a covid -19 rider ??

What I see is a lot of uncertainty about where to draw lines. The flu is contagious, mutates into various strains, has no real 'cure,' the annual vaccine is of limited efficacy, there's potential to acquire and spread problematic strains with travel and it kills many people in America and worldwide each year. As this past year has shown, COVID-19 precautions can greatly reduce the flu burden. So, do we do that all the time, to fight the flu?

Nope. We mostly ignore it, go our merry way, and let the chips fall where they may.

On the other hand, a New York Times e-mail digest this morning said COVID-19 has killed about 15 times as many Americans as a typical flu year. So...that's too many. Hence the lock downs, masks, social distancing, near total shut down of the cruise industry, etc...

Somewhere in the gap, we're going to drop some and eventually most precautions and get back to living freely. But where is that point, and how to determine it?

Some would say 'Whatever the CDC' (or Dr. Fauci) says; maybe so. But there's an old adage - 'Where you stand on an issue depends on where you sit.' The CDC's focus is on mitigation of disease, morbidity and mortality. Whether I 'need' or want a vacation, or my kid's been to Disney World, or I'd like to take a cruise or try diving in Indonesia...likely isn't a priority with them. When can restaurants and bars be open, kids in school and Church goers sing? We've seen these issues play out.

Those priorities matter to me, though. So I share their priorities...but also some they may lack.

My purpose in posting this is, I see people get frustrated with the views (and practices) other people post that disagree with their own. We've all got judgment calls to make...and individual's choices are going to vary widely. Not just dive travel...but when it's okay to hug grandma.

P.S.: The vaccines are wonderful. Big reduction in cases, and great when it comes to preventing hospitalization or death. Major benefits with the vaccines.

(1) don’t travel when they are sick,
(2) are tested to make sure they are COVID-19 free before and after each trips,
(3) have or would be vaccinated before they travel overseas.

You know this person? You could have let us know where he was, they have been looking for him for a week.

No. However from your description, he obviously traveled sick. If he was asymptomatic, that means he wasn’t tested for COVID-19 before traveling. If he got the virus, that would imply that he was not following the COVID-19 protocol & did not have the right attitude & discipline towards preventing the spreading of the virus. Basically the opposite of the 4 items that I mentioned earlier.

Testing is not perfect. His test could have been a false negative, he could have touched a door handle in his cab/coffee shop/departure lounge/toilet, he could have walked in air previously used by an infected person.

Whatever, and he can have been completely convinced he was doing the right thing, he did travel and he did bring a new variant to Switzerland and the the U.K. Five others did the same.

If they had stayed at home it would not have happened. Stay at home, keep other people, countries and continents safe.

All it takes is a bit of patience.
