Not every "experienced" diver have this kind of mentality. It is all down to individual.

Dody has become a DM now. I would expect that with his level of training he would be in control. It's a bit sad that he was trained and yet nobody picked up his problem of being underweighted. How would Dody have assisted another diver at the end of a dive who was also struggling to stay at 5m or less ( or deeper ) due to also being underweighted?

If you're using a wing all you have to go a little head down and reach back to feel how much air is there. If if it's more that a fistful or so, drop a pound or so and check again on the next dive.
I use a jacket BCD. If I ever have a heart attack, at least I will surface face up :).

Honestly. You have many many more dives than me but do you really care about uncontrolled ascent? It should never happen once you know your stuff. Faulty LPI, lost weight belt or upcurrents are the only instances I would worry about runaway ascent. I agree that an easy reply would be that I don’t know my stuff… yet.
His point was that if you are underweighted at the end of a dive, you will have an uncontrolled ascent, and there will not be much in the way of skills that will prevent that from happening. A diver I know had a buoyancy control issue at about 90-100 feet after a middling tech dive. He was a long time tech instructor, even a cave instructor. As he went to the surface, he did all he could to stop the ascent, but he could not stop it. He said he assumed he was going to die. He didn't die, though. It just took 3 months in a rehabilitation hospital for him to be able to walk again.

I am a DM but I do not practise. I just did it to gain more knowledge. And I am aware of this buoyancy issue since I got my new wetsuit. I would not accept to be responsible for anyone in those conditions.

This underweight issue only occurred when I got a new wetsuit. And this was not covered in my courses.

New wetsuit, possible change in buoyancy, weight check at the end of a dive, what do you mean this was not covered in your DM courses? Your courses were not acceptable, your thought process has flaws, sorry

I think a number of people do this; it's easy to fall into the mindset that people who want to keep improving and become better divers should take OW - AOW (fit nitrox in there somewhere) - Rescue - DM, and maybe onward to Instructor. I imagine some people with a DM cert. have no intention of leading dives for paying customers, etc...

You sought progressive dive education and are interested in improving, open to discuss situations and your role, and actively trying to gain insight and improve. You will.

Richard.
