No. Pete has decreed that we shall not delete posts forever. The reason given is that it messes up the database.
My Alerts don’t go back far enough to find the one I received from ”?”, but i’m pretty sure it either said deleted or removed. Again, I’m fine with that one being done away with, but where would it have gone if not deleted? Just curious.

It occupies the exact space it was in.

"hidden from public view" is likely a better description than "deleted"

Moderators rarely do things unilaterally. And problem cases are usually claimed by someone, and if a moderator screws with a problem child claimed by another moderator, a kerfluffle can develop.

We rarely act without a report. The forum belongs to y'all. If a user reports a post, we will discuss the report (it opens up the reporter to scrutiny as much as it does the reporter), and usually reach consensus on a course of action. The rare case is when the offense is so egregious, or a blatant racism (or any other -ism) that we delete the post and report it ourselves. In that case, the post needs to remain so we can all have a look at it.

That's why posts are almost never ever ever deleted. They are just removed from public view.

99% of our moderation involves 4 users. We know who they are, they know who they are.

"We rarely act without a report"

Would help to know who the snitch is.

I am Frank, I am Wookie, I am staff, but not a moderator.

I'm likely the least anonymous person on the board. If you haven't noticed, it's because you weren't paying attention.

I could have sworn you moderated some of my posts to the arrogant instructor.

200k users, I’m sure there’s no less than 10 a day from people who don’t like posts.

I don’t care whom reports a post unless it gets out of hand.
hypothetically speaking of course, if I managed another forum and received reports from posts that were weeks old, I may get a wee bit frustrated.
Some people just go on a reporting frenzy when they could simply ignore the other person.

Also, for the record, no one should want to know who the “snitch” is, one of the great things about being a moderator, is having access to the “moved” section….

Are you telling me what I should or should not want to know?

Yes, but I was still not a moderator.

Wookie is being technical. There are different staff positions. Some are moderators, and that is all they do. Others have different primary responsibilities, but they can and do moderate as needed.
