I can't see the op paying for the gear loss. This is the same op that canceled us in October of 2020 and wouldn't refund our money due to the fact we couldn't go for the next year-and-a-half and wanted us to schedule for this October and we've been paying on this trip since 2017....all I have to say is good luck!! They are a piece of work!
Ah, but as we have learned from our 6 pages of blathering luck has nothing to do with it. See, there is a new alternative insurance product that you can leverage here...one that requires no foresight, annoying and tedious analysis of probability vs cost, expensive premiums nor any risk of a claim denial by an officious insurance representative citing some exclusionary snippet of cleverly disguised fine print. You don't have to buy anything ahead of time and can just blissfully plod along without a care in the world. Should an unfortunate incident such as this befall you then just crowdsource your way back to financial restitution!

For a small percentage of the proceeds, I'll be glad to set it up for you so it appears to be another concerned member of the dive community trying to right an injustice vs. you just standing around on the internet with your hand out.

Peanut gallery comment. Remember when the Aggressor boat ran aground in the Galapagos 4 or so years ago? That happened at night. By the next morning the boat was pilfered and stripped. PAX lost everything and got nothing. One can extrapolate from that.

There isn't any coverage under DAN insurance for this instance. They only pay if the gear was cut off you and lost during a recovery.

Homeowners rider is the way to go if you aren't a professional.
Even under their annual trip insurance? I know for regular Dan insurance it wouldn’t be covered

Socorro is uninhabited except for a Mexican naval station. (A very lucky place to have run aground considering the remote location).
There are very strict controls on who can land on the island, so random looting highly unlikely.

Is there any more substantive info on the circumstances of the accident?

Trip insurance might cover it, it would depend on the policy details. Most have an exclusion for lost or swept overboard.

I don’t know if this is true or not, but I read on FB that everyone was asleep and the boat was on autopilot.

has the location of the grounding been posted. I am not referring to Socorro rather the location on the island. The photos I have seen kinda look like Cabo Pierce but its been quite a few years since I did the last trip.

Asleep seems like the only logical explanation. I know with boats I've owned the gps/radar is pretty accurate. If you're paying attention it's almost impossible to run aground like that.
