I am new to the boards. I am joining to get some advice for a trip my husband and I are planning for the summer to Bonaire. We have not been and are looking for "must dive" sites and accommodations.

Thanks

You'll have so many options. This is one place boat diving is very cool but the shore diving is the best in the world! Some of the best spots are by the resorts. Right off the dock of some of the island's resorts. La Machaca, the house reef at Capt. Don's Habitat, Flamingo's Calabas Reef, Plaza Resort, and Bari Reef. Sand Dollar Resort, has alot of fish to see. Near Harbour Resort's beach, theres a part wooden freighter that has alot of turtles and eels. There is a ton to see from shore.

Boat diving you'll want to dive Klein Bonaire, an island that no one lives on that has alot of great spots itself.

welcome aboard

Amanda,

I would recommend like the above posts for "Shore Diving Made Easy", you can get it on Amazon.com As far as where to stay, it depends on your likes and your budget. The only "5 star" on the island is Harbour Village and it is more like a very upscale condo resort with a restaurant, dive op, etc. If you like the true "resort feel" then I would recommend Divi Flamingo as they have a couple of pools, couple of bars, couple of restaurants, dive op, casino, etc. Buddy Dive, Eden Beach and Captain Don's are also great. If you want to do it "on a budget" there are quite a few places close to the water, but not on the water. Of course ourselves, Golden Reef, but also Coral Paradise, Deep Blue View, La Pura Vista. Once again, it depends on your budget, and what you exactly want. Good luck. Check out Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association: Hotels, Scuba Diving, Snorkeling and Windsurfing Information to detailed info on some accommodations. It is the Bonaire Hotel Association's Website.

Welcome to the board. May I suggest you grab something to drink and do a search on the board with the word "Bonaire". This board has hours and hours of reading on the subject and you can learn pretty much anything you want to know. Once you have gotten a good feel for the island, you can ask specific questions. There are a good many folks on the board that know Bonaire well, including a few that live there.
