Coroner Leon Jones said [name removed] was wearing a scuba tank when he went into the water off ...

Well that does it. It was that darned scuba tank that got him.

Sorry, but that was a very lame excuse for something a writer trying to add detail to this story, or he had no idea what he was writing about. I think that if that's all they could add, then leave it as diver was lost, and the times provided in the article.

We used to say WSB stood for "we're such buttheads".

A little more sobering when its this close to home. Be careful out there.
Cause of Lake Tobesofkee drowning sought - Local & State - Macon
How about this.

officials said the incident demonstrates why scuba diving is forbidden in the lake.

Could just as easily be "officials said the incident demonstrates why scuba diving is forbidden"

or "officials said the incident demonstrates why leaving the house is forbidden "

Later:

Furney said scuba diving is forbidden at the lake because of boat traffic and because of possible obstructions at the bottom of the lake, such as fishing line and tree roots, that would be difficult to see in the dark water.

Yet, neither of these was the cause of the accident according to the recovery divers.
