... John said go to an FFWC meeting and you'll see why. There are far more ignorant people that show up against fishing than those who support it. ....
At the meetings there alot of groups who want the ocean to be a 'pristine' place that no humans can touch, or access. They believe this will stop an possible harm. @IncreaseMyT ,,I'm a spearo. You should attend an FWC meeting, it's pretty eye opening how the process works and the comments that are made. Luckily, (most of the time), good decisions are made. The whole key is to understand the very long process as an issue winds down the path to final regulations,,,not after a rule is published.

It was not " in fact" spear fishermen that devastated Jewish. Every single study done from the 1950s on by state, federal and independent researchers shows recreational fishermen catching 60 to 90% of the catch each year. With commercial fishing, trawling and both types of spearfishing dividing the rest. The decline is thought by some to have started before there was any spearfishing going on for them based on pictorial evidence of party boat catches.

Lets see the study, cause I bet money it states that 'fish' in general, not specifically Jewfish. Trawlers don't pick up Jew fish dude.

Seriously who refers to a study without citing it?

PS I can show you studies that say Jewfish only eat crustaceans too lol

Epinephelus itajara

Of historical importance to commercial fisheries, the goliath grouper has also long been prized by recreational and sport fishers. Traditionally, the species has been caught primarily by hook and line, traps, and trawls...

Food Habits
Goliath grouper feed largely on crustaceans (in particular spiny lobsters, shrimps and crabs), fishes (including stingrays and parrotfishes), octopus, and young sea turtles. Prey is ambushed, caught with a quick rush and snap of the jaws. The sharp teeth are adapted for seizing prey and preventing escape although most prey is simply engulfed and swallowed whole.

Thats not a study man. Jew fish don't get caught in trawls, they hide way under cover. If you were to trawl where they are you would lose your whole rig.

People were spearing them in the 70's and selling them. So we can sit here and argue whether it was commercial or rec but back then there wasn't much of a difference.

The same thing happened down the coast of CA with Black Sea Bass

So why do I see them eat 40 inch Permit? LOL They LOVE permit. If you shoot one in front of them they go crazy. Almost like a shark does. They truth is they are lazy and eat whatever they can catch, easily.

You do realize that is just a write up from Joe Schmo on the net right? After he read some "studies"?

I have personally witnessed at least 10 species eaten by Jewfish that are not on that list. You can't shoot a fish within 10 miles of shore in Collier County without having to fight multiple Jewfish for it. So whoever told "Robert H Robins" that obviously needs to get out in the water and observe them more.
