    Mask removal and Bouyancy

In theory your buddy should be fairly close. I can see my buddies light and we use brightly colored dry gloves giving us all the visual queues that we could want. If you dive tropical you may find it harder. Keeping your breathing constant will definitly help.

    NDL Limit

The NDL's do not change with the size of the tank. Gas consumption is a function of depth, physical size and health. Most women have a lower consumption rate then men for coresponding depths. A bigger diver may not have enough gas to ever reach the NDL's for a given depth. With a larger tank...

    Advanced Nitrox,TDI or IANTD?

The requirements to take the Advanced Nitrox course are pretty low. Most divers with as few dives as that dont have great bouyancy. With 50% you get a larger margin for error without pushing your PP02 too high. With 100% that marging for error gets smaller. If you can hold your bouyancy +/-...

    Doubles trim issues

Something you may want to try is holding your hands out in front of you. This should help trap a little air in the upper portion of your dry suit and keep the air out of your feet. It worked for me, just my .02 Cents. :)

    DIR-F Class this weekend

We also got hammered on our buddy skills. The fact that we could not perform the skills perfectly was irrelevant as long as we were trying and paying attention. Lift bag deployment was one of those areas where everything would be going great and then it would go in the crapper really quickly...

    gear configuration question

Just finished my DIRF course last weekend and here is what they told us and why. Long hose does not need to be breakaway, however you should be able to cut the attachment. SPG should be breakaway. The reasoning was simply. You only ever donate the reg in your mouth so no one should be taking...

Good Buoyancy Control - How ???

I had a lot of problems with bouyancy at first just like everyone else. Fortunitly the people I was diving with had a lot of experience and gave me the following drill to practice with. Float a lift bag or surface marker in about 50 feet of water and tie it off. then in a horizontal position...

The Great local dive shop vs. online debate

dvleemin That pool session that the LDS wanted to charge you $25.00 for happens every Saturday night at 8:00 pm. The dive tank is open to any scuba divers and costs $5.75 per person as long as you have all the gear. A group of us go at least once every two weeks during the winter. As for...

I was wondering if anyone has tried the new Whites Denstek 45th Aniversary Suit? It is a 4mm compress neoprene suit. I am curious about the inherant bouyancy. I can get a great deal on one but dont want to add a lot of lead to get down. Any information that can be provided would be greatly...

    Newbie Equipment

I would purchase in a slightly different order: Mask Fins Exposure Suit Top three are the basics, If you re doing warm water diving a 3 mil wet suit is relativly inexpensive. Regs - Get a high performance reg, much better than sucking on some rental that you are not sure where it has...

What do you do in the winter months?

A deal has been made with one of the local swimming pools. They allow us to use the pool every Saturday for the price of regular admission. Its only 18 feet deep, but its good practice.

BP/Wings: Why aren't they offered to first time purchasers??

Unfortunately we live in a society where more seems to be better. If you look at every new product it is new and/or improved with some really cool new feature. I think that many people have a hard time understanding that less can be better when done properly.
