Congratulations! I'm hoping to do the AOW next year as well if everything goes ok with our dives in Nov. We'll dive in Puerto Vallarta and Cabo in February as well. Won't be as nice as Cozumel and Grand Turk but a chance to get in the water nonetheless.
Lake we certified in was 75 until we hit the thermocline! Had a 7mil suit on and that was ok for the time we were there. Apparently there are some pretty cool wrecks to dive in Lake Superior so maybe I'll have to think about that at some point but that is a whole other level of diving.
Thanks everyone! AOW I'm thinking about for next summer. Rescue diver...well I'll wait to see how much rescuing I need on my dives before getting that far ahead!
Well...after all that and guess what. No budda hover! We had to hover horizontally (or we could have been head up) at 15 ft for 3 minutes. This was to simulate a safety stop and cover our hovering requirement.
Well it didn't help that right before we did the budda hover I had a problem with the weight belt removal and replace. I took the belt off and held the buckle with my left hand and let the right side drop which allowed the weights to slide right off!
As I was trying to gather them up the...
Well I do know it will be a requirement in our 4th dive since it's on our list of skills.
I too was thinking if you put yourself in a lotus position your center of gravity will determine where your head ends up so to speak. It is a PADI course so if I'm hovering but not with my head...
Wondering if you have any tips for the neutral buoyancy hover for the OW cert dive? Doing them this coming weekend.
I struggled with it in the pool as I want to tip over and not just sit there upright and float. Any suggestions for being able to hover and stay "sitting" upright?
Thanks for sharing. I think I will experience something similar in two weeks. Just finished the classroom/pool portion today for my open water.
The lake we will be using for our checkout dives in two weeks has poor visibility and I have difficulties equalizing my ears in general...
Thanks everyone for the input! I think we will do both if we can work out the odd schedule in Curacao!
We did do a two tank discover dive from shore when we were on a cruise to Hawaii in April so I'd be happy to do that in Curacao.
I'll have to check out JADS in Aruba, I've seen them...
I plan too, someday! :D
I'm just trying to find the place I want to go back to for a land vacation. We have been snorkeling in several places from Hawaii to Cabo to various places in the Caribbean and I figured it was time to take it to the next step and try and get scuba certified.
So...
We are on a cruise in Nov and we will be visiting Aruba and Curacao. Which would you prefer to dive if you only could choose one?
We will be new divers (getting certified in Aug).
I plan to dive in Cozumel and Grand Turk before our stops in Aruba and Curacao. As these two are back to...
What do you think about doing the dive through the cruise ship if you are brand new? We are hoping to get our open water cert in August and have a couple cruises in November. I was thinking it would be better to go through the ship since we will be newbies.
